Re: New yyz slots..this is gonna hurt!
It is intended as sarcastic humour, not passive aggressive but regardless, I'm happy to explain. Anybody can look up their GDP time at the link below, but keep in mind, it doesn't apply to the apreq delays which I mentioned earlier. https://www.fly.faa.gov/edct/jsp/edctLookUp.jsp You can find FAA GD...

Have a look here to see who pays how much to the doorman... https://www.torontopearson.com/en/Airport_Charges_and_Fees/# We had a slot allocation back into YYZ for 10pm the other night from YOW. Called clearance about 8.30 for a 9pm departure and was told because of flow, our new wheels up time was ...

Re: New yyz slots..this is gonna hurt!
ATC flow delays are a result of the airport capacity being reduced to roughly 30 arrivals per hour from 60+ due to the 05/23 closure. When demand exceeds capacity on a routine basis, obviously halving the acceptance rate will lead to delays. The situation is no different than a restaurant with 30 ta...

Re: Changing from IFR to VFR
You must wait 8 years after qualification to to be eligible to "downbid" from the acc or a complex tower like pearson to another vfr site, and you can only do it once in your career. Once eligible, there is a process to get a spot which takes time and then a release from your current position and th...

Re: Flow delays YYC
Post subject: Re: Flow delays YYC I understand ground delays. The part I don't understand is after waiting on the ground our obligatory hour, why are we still issued a crossing time inbound (sometimes they get us early and we can slow and avoid drilling holes, other times it's oops! you guys n...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach
Wrong....at the very least it provided information and eliminates the requirement for a monitor controller.
For all the other reasons I stated, please report the field in sight even if you only see in on your ND!

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach
Did you read the initial post? The OP stated he was third on final already cleared the approach. He asked what benefit it gave to ATC. He didn't state that it was in a high density terminal with parallel rwy ops in effect. Yes, and I thought I'd elaborate on the topic. I stated 3 reasons to show wh...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach
Where are you people getting your false information? Reporting the airport or preceding traffic is one of the most important things a pilot can do in a high density terminal environment particularly where parallel approaches are in operation and has these advantages: 1. IFR separation (3 miles or 10...

Re: Hiring Freeze at WJA?
Can you please explain how 210k is possible for a "FO Overtime Whore" You can only fly 1200 hrs per year, 960 of would be straight time. Even with ESP, profit sharing, working all vacation, and training outside of block, that still implies a base hourly wage of well over $100/hr. I'm curious to see ...

Re: Recruiting process for ATC
Vince,
I have green circles both with completion dates of 2008-10-11.
IFR was my preference, but I think they decide what stream you end up in based on testing results.
Sean,
Any rumors around yyz as to when the next course is?
Thanks

I applied on the 11th, received a pass on both online tests, but haven't received a written test invitation either.

I see the new site is up, but the "apply now" link leads nowhere. With the upcoming testing sessions in yyz yeg and yvr, I would like to start the process soon. Anybody with any insight with the process, and as to when and where the next courses are scheduled, and if they are filled up with people f...

Re: YVR IFR
Thanks for the replies guys. Where do most controllers and trainees live then? White Rock, Richmond, Surrey itself? I take it people aren't into that long public transit commute, and I don't imagine driving is any better.

Anyone know exactly where the YVR ACC is actually located? The NavCanada site says Surrey, whereabouts? How far of a commute from downtown would this be?

Anybody know how the scores are weighted? Interview/cog/psych? Is hiring based on the interview and the other tests are just there to make sure you're "okay"? Do the people that conduct the interviews make the hiring decision, or do their notes just get shipped for HR to decide? Any guys getting pfo...

Cancelling IFR
What's the deal with everybody "continuing on a company itin" when landing somewhere with a tower or FSS.
From my understanding cancelling IFR DOES NOT cancel the alerting services.
