Re: Swiss Helo Pilots in Canada
This happens a lot in Canada. I've met many foreigners in the Canadian industry. Lots of Aussies and Kiwis flying here in BC. I wouldn't say its a "mafia" but i agree its a problem. There are so many flight schools pumping out new pilots into a system that will only hire maybe 25% of them. It is so ...

Re: KF Aerospace contractor deal!
Pat I haven't seen rates higher than $45/hr since the early 2000's. I looked at contracting a few years back and the offers were in the low 40's. Anyways this industry isn't known for money and I'm not involved in fixed wing anymore so I don't know what good money is over there anymore. Doesn't soun...

Re: KF Aerospace contractor deal!
Ha no I don't think so. I think they are referring to unlicensed sheet metal for the most part. It use to be a thing, not so much anymore but there are some quality unlicensed techs out there.Keppen wrote:So i could make 43 per hour coming right out of school? Unlicensed as an AME?

I use to work for KF. Jumped ship and went to the rotary world about 7 years ago. I still know a lot of guys that work there and its pretty much how i left it. Super crazy busy with new work coming in all the time. I have contractor friends that are there and they like it, they are mostly our of tow...

No they don't actually. They F'd around with their pay scale to make it harder to go above $33 but the top rate is around $36 on the floor and then crew chief is $40+.chowda wrote:doesnt kf top out at $33?

Up to...pretty standard write up. Flightcraft could say that too, but good luck getting it. The only people weeping are the ones living in Cold Lake, lol.

Re: Did Purolator dump KFL for Cargojet??
Barry always said he wouldn't run out and buy newer aircraft if it didn't make sense. He's no dummy, wouldn't be surprised if KF finds another cargo company to jump in bed with. He always has something in the works, he let Puralotor go because it wasn't economically viable anymore if he had to buy n...

Re: Anyone ever work for Canadian air crane?
I have worked with the crane guys and I know at least one of them was hired with no tech school training. Did his apprentiship on the job. They are usually around the west coast logging these days, tough to run into them at an airport, they are usually in the bush somewhere, nice guys.

Kelowna flightcraft is the Purolator contractor in Hamilton airport. Large base with opportunities, big jets are fun to work on too.

Re: AME-M vs AME-S
I've been doing Structures for too long and while there is demand, I find there is less selection for places to work/live compared to having an M license. Do whichever one you think you'll enjoy more. If you have an artistic side, go S, if you are more mechanical go M. My 2 bits.

One thing about Air Canada...those guys don't exactly have to bust their butts to make that money. I know, I worked there for years until Aveos ripped away my career. Sorry to be a jerk, but perhaps the reason your careers got ripped away was because no one busted their butts at work. Far more impo...

Wow, umm wrong. Cat19 where have you been? Structures can't be erased from heavy maintenance MRO and AMO's. I know many a contractor out there bashing rivets across the country. The demand for S guys is only going up with less training centres offering the program. Contracting rates have been going ...

Re: AME S apprentice...13 years ago.
Try. If you have the right attitude and some skills you might get on with someone. The problem with the course you took in 2000 is, I think it was an unapproved course then. Meaning the time you put in at school will not count towards your S licence and you will not be able to get an S licence. Tran...

If you are interested in manufacturing and working your way into an overhaul job, look at Viking Air in Victoria. Kinda lame to start but it will get better as you demonstrate ability. Union shop, good pay and benefits.

Very good outfit. If you can get on full time, it's a job for life. Sometimes they bring on app's for temp help. Most of the ame's there are very long term, says something.

Avionics is probably the easiest going department in KFC. Seems like they got treated pretty good compared to other trades, good crew chiefs for sure. I would give It a go, especially if you're a younger guy. Okanagan can be an expensive but fun place to live.

I would do it if i was looking for a job and wanted to live in Vancouver. It could be a good thing if your into heavy maintenance. If you were trying to get into a place like Winnepeg it would be even better because of the cheaper cost of living out there.
