Replacement panel switches
I’m daydreaming of a panel upgrade on my plane. It currently has old school toggle switches. I would like to go to a more modern looking rocker switch, like this: https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/c&k/D501J12S2APQA/7056054?utm_adgroup=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMax%20Pro...

Very similar to what I do, except I never monitor 121.5. I don’t have a good reason not to, just not something I have ever done.

Re: Taildragger Noseover/Groundloop Thread
From TSB.... C-FUSE, a privately registered Piper PA-18 aircraft, was conducting touch-and-go at Saskatoon/Richter Field (CRF5), SK. On the third touchdown, the pilot lost control and the aircraft ground looped. The pilot sustained minor injuries. The aircraft was substantially damaged. It was repo...

Re: Your right to a review of a failed PPC is not extinguished by passing a subsequent PPC
Good topic! I am guessing that after TC got a look at a PPC system they approved, with scripts that did not align with the SOPs and unfair rides (see case below), their appetite to have failed PPC rides reviewed was reduced. Nice to see the Tribunal is keeping TC’s feet to the fire. https://canlii.c...

Re: Floatplane Incident in Sask Wheat Field
I saw the twitter post on this from the farmer whose field it ended up in. Apparently the plane was being rebuilt and this was a test flight.

I’m interested to read an eventual report on this...

Re: P180 job ad: "don't apply"
I mean if you are hiring right now it's raining soup and instead of getting a bucket and running outside, this company is worried that there might be an oversize chunk of carrot in there somewhere so they don't want any. Very wise points about what a wise strategy could be for this company, and tha...

Re: Engine Oil Mysteriously Increased
What a mystery! Re: different dipstick - most of the dipsticks I have seen with numbers stamped match the serial number on the engine. That should be easy to check. Re: Bent dipstick - that’s a stumper. Why would the dipstick be near someone’s feet to be stepped on? Very odd. Re: Increase in oil - 5...

Incorporating a partnership
Hi all, I am considering purchasing a plane with 2 partners, and renting it out to other licenced pilots. We are discussing creating a corporation to limit our liability; has anyone else done this? My understanding of corporate law is weak, but I believe that a corporation has all the same rights in...

Any word on the atr crash in fon du lac. Crashed on take off I heard due to freezing rain. Too early to jump to conclusions. Let's wait for the investigation and report. Maybe it'll be classified as a hard landing and not a crash. I doubt they landed hard a kilometer from the airport... The GFA has...

I've flown with both Mitchinson's and Millennium. They have different approaches; Mitchinson's runs like a business, Millennium like a hobby. This is illustrated by my experience renting. Sometimes I pick up an airplane early in the morning to take for the whole day. I expect the airplane to be read...

Private aircraft rental
I am looking at purchasing a 172. Mostly to fly around (surprising, hey?), take friends flying, etc. I have many colleagues that are pilots as well and like to fly. I am considering allowing them to rent my future plane. Obviously, the plane would be insured for whatever pilots would fly it, or they...

Re: Saskatoon PPL Training
I did my commercial at Mitchinson's, with my own plane, and found them to be very business like, which makes sense when you're running a business. When I no longer had a plane and needed to rent one to go places, I would rent at Millenium because they were more laid back with their currency requirem...

The right hand engine failed, and the pilot was diverting to Thompson when he decided the best course of action was to land on the highway.
Good job!

I had just gotten 300hrs, and my multi rating. I walked into the chief pilot's office and said "Now that you have paid for all my multi training, you must let me fly that twin engine plane."
He said, "Ok, son"
I said, "Thanks pop"

There is a private guy in Saskatoon who does Mitchinson Flying School's aircraft (or did). I got him to do our 172 seats and side/door panels, did very nice work. Can't recall how price was. He does fabric work, but you have to remove and install the parts and take it to him. I think his name is Ken...

He took it up to 10,000 or so, and started to spin it down... he said around 3000' AGL the engine quit... by the time they were recovered, and got the engine started agai...

Excellent analysis and well said, Rockie. Because it is a company operating in a federally regulated industry, relief can be sought against it under the Charter of Rights. A majority vote in a union has nothing to do with the Charter. The Charter concerns itself with whether Raymond Hall could be f...

I parted out two Aztecs this summer and was impressed by how much steel tubing was around the cabin and nose.... It took a few cutting blades to get through it all, but I think the Aztec would be a good plane to walk away from in a collision.
