Well let's hope so!
That being said, if my FO is getting a signing bonus, I'd better get a retention bonus!!

An ex RAF guy I worked with said "you only pull the handles because you know you'll die if you don't".
I think that sums the ejection seat option pretty clearly.

Re: Saving fuel any way they can
I can tell you that I ended up shutting an engine down on the -6 on the west coast of Baffin. I loitered overhead my intended destination while company came up with a rescue plan. Once everything settled in I did the math and had jags of gas to get back to YFB. The return trip had originally been ex...

Arctic has very good coverage on 56. If I can't get ahold of them it's probably the equipment in the aircraft I'm flying that's at fault.

Our latest ATR captain upgrade has about 5.5 years with the company.
Our number one guy on the seniority list has about 35 years in. I'm guessing our junior 737 captain has about 24 years in.
I agree with Marinths assessment.

Re: 7F and 5T Codesharing flights.
Well you could make all of your customers happy. Then you go broke. Finally the airline who is still in business has a monopoly...for a while. Id be able to hear all of the complaining from 1200 miles away. It's expensive running a northern airline and I doubt even with all of this codeshareing and ...

Re: 7F and 5T Codesharing flights.
7f is down an airplane for a few months while it has the combi mod done to it. I'm sure that Flair is cheaper than what 5t would have wanted to get paid for doing 7f's AM flight YOW-YFB AN I figure that ruffled feathers at 5t so they pulled out if part of code share. What's going on is two airlines ...

Between the jigs and the reels, it's a crappy time to be working for a 705 Northern operator.
I've just about had enough of this and I might need to go back to my Twin Otter.

Our Executive management are pleased to call this a "strategic partnership". In other words Summits cost per seat/mile is less than 7F's so they do some of our flying now. It's a slippery slope but I won't air dirty laundry here.

Re: Canadian North / First Air Pilot & Aircraft Bases
The rotation for 7F is a constant 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. We have an exemption that allows us to fly the day we come in and the day we go out which is actually the 15th day. There are other restrictions to this but as a result they can't really mess with the schedule. We have guys who have had the s...

Re: Airport with private apron advisory service?
YFB has an apron advisory frequency now. Its managed by the FBO at the north end and if the ramp is busy up at that end FSS will "hand" you off to them on their freq. They are not controllers and, as far as I can tell, they can't prevent you from doing what normal aircraft do on the ramp. They simpl...

I'm also assuming that a reduced number of experienced floating sea ice capts is a factor in the risk analysis. By my count there are only about 5-6 capts left there who could, almost without fail, get that job done reliably and without banging up the machine or skis.

Re: The importance of 126.70 calls....
Good points made about how we handled this scenario and J31, yes it might have been possible that the TCAS system may have commanded a reversal but given the fact that the TCAS displayed target was already in the decent and below us I can't imagine we would have received anything other than a climb....

Re: The importance of 126.70 calls....
Well given that we are operating in NDA below 230, its uncontrolled. Additionally with our slight climb we cleared him by only about 1200'. If we had not climbed the 600 feet...well you can do the math. I'd do it again
In controlled airspace, totally different actions are in play.
