Re: Has anyone had cataracts

I don’t know anything about the regulatory issues involved, suggest talking to a Flight Surgeon. But: I recently underwent the intra-ocular lens replacement in both eyes for cataracts, and am ecstatic with the results. 20/20 vision now.

What a great story! Usually you can look around the job site and see somethings that need to be done... so just do it!

Re: Job after working in the Canadian Forces?

The Army doesn't have any Avionics Techs. :) I was an Avionics Tech in the CAF, and got out in 1988. Transport Canada reviewed my military training records, and granted me permission to attempt the AME exams. After I successfully completed them, I was issued a AME "E" licence, as I was working at Ai...

Re: Going rate for a Twin Otter AME?

Under their brand-new Collective Agreement, an AME at Air Canada makes about $100,000. No Twin Otters there, though.

I saw an ad looking to hire an AME for this company to support 2 King Air B300's based in Trenton, Ontario. Can anyone tell me what the mission of these aircraft will be? Just curious about the business...

If this were the case, the crews would be very quick to write up a snag on such a thing. I've heard no reports of any.

Just a thought here... I've read the new Trans Pacific Trade deal, and the floodgates will be wide open for foreign trades workers to come to Canada. Just about any trade you can think of... Electricians, Oil Field workers, any Trade in the Construction industry, and AME's. Of course, it is reciproc...

There is no distance learning or on-line training available that will satisfy the Transport Canada requirements for Avionics training. Sorry, you will need to aquire that training by attending an approved school in real-time.

Re: Possible for Station Attendant transfer to Apprentice AM

Air Canada in Toronto is very short on AME's, with lots of upcoming retirements. I can't say officially, but I'm pretty sure there is about to be a "hiring wave". Any experienced AMEs who are interested, or qualified others who wish to transfer into Maintenance should apply now.

Just sayin'.... :)
