Re: Average flight time

Are you at a well-established flight training unit with a set curriculum or a smaller operation? Have you seen the curriculum? If you're following the curriculum, and accomplishing everything that should be accomplished on each flight, then it's a non-issue in my mind. Most larger FTUs have a set cu...

Re: Porter receiving E195-E2?

I think there are some interesting underserved point to point opportunities in this country that don't have the volume for a narrow-body aircraft, but are too far apart for a Q400. That said, leasing, or reselling delivery slots, could net them a small profit given the timeline - 2022-2023 may see s...

Re: Airport revenues

You would think that operating these large airport terminals like shopping malls with products marked up am atrocious amount would be enough to pay the bills - but given the AIF's and other fees they charge obviously it's not doing the trick. Maybe forget about investing in the infrastructure requir...

Re: Frontier lack of deice in Nashville

Terrifying shit when you picture yourself up front with no other help and can't see the wings. The "trained" de-icer people need to be elevated above a minimum level wage. This has always concerned me - bigger airports in Canada are good, but some out-stations have left me really wondering the comp...

Re: End of the Line for the Dash-8?

They were going to have to pause production at some point in order to relocate the assembly plant from Downsview... so while it still sucks, the timing on this may almost be helpful in getting things arranged and moved. I'd say as long as there are orders, production will restart. If routes are thin...

Re: WAWCON at PAL Aerospace

Also, from having friend's of friend's that work there, I believe they are flying quite specialized King Air 200's that are well over-weight compared to a joe-blow B200 at low-level over the North Atlantic... So I don't think it should be compared to the average King Air job. Seems pretty specialize...

was told they had a slide at 1st day GS, it was on for about 3 seconds, and never available after that......do they have a policy book they distribute that shows wages? Maybe that's why this happened  https://www.alpa.org/news-and-events/news-room/2020-07-23-alpa-represents-pal-aerospace-pilots

Re: Steep Turns At Low Altitude

The problem is I feel like the aircraft will fall out of the sky at any moment while doing it, whether a steepish turn or full rudder slip. This is fine at altitude, because I know I can recover (I rather enjoy spins) - which is not the case close to the ground. Have you tried having your instructo...

Re: COVID MOA 2

Additionally, wouldn't EIC's existing companies infringe on the non-competing clause in the Jazz CPA? Not sure about Calm Air and Perimeter, but I know at least PAL is competing with some AC/Jazz routes, while also having a Montreal base... Separating Jazz from Chorus makes much more sense - Jazz go...

Re: Steep Turns At Low Altitude

When I instructed I taught my students that I didn't want to see more than 15 degrees AoB during a climbing turn, and never more than 30 degrees AoB in the circuit. There's no need, certainly during the pre-solo phase, for steep turns below the upper-airwork floor. If you can't make it onto final wi...

Re: What is wrong with the aviation industry?

I know some people that made 40k plus their first year flight instructing, but they had to work like a dog at a busy school, push weather, not really care about results, etc. to manage that. It is only what you make of it, but as said above, you can end up a senior wide body captain making 300k annu...

Re: Sometimes the turnback is too successful

It's important that everyone remembers that a 180 turnback is a lot more than 180 degrees worth of turn, in order to line back up with the departure runway. Unless you have practiced over and over again in the aircraft you're flying, it's recipe for disaster. As a poster pointed out above, it's real...

Re: Full length takeoff

I remember reading somewhere (don't know if it's true) that manufacture recommended procedure for old Soviet machines deliberately delayed rotation to use up the whole runway to improve performance in the event of an engine out. Don't know if there is truth to this, and haven't done any research on ...

Re: What should pilots do going forward?

As much as most of us want to keep our jobs and keep money rolling in, keeping more pilots on reduced wages will diminish wages and working conditions long-term. If this goes on long enough supply and demand will cause wages at a lot of smaller carriers to decrease, but keeping conditions at the lar...

Re: Nolinor Aviation Starts New Airline

In the nearly ten years I’ve been a part of the aviation industry in this country, I’ve had the pleasure of working with several ex-Nolinor employees including both pilots and flight attendants, some of whom would later become close friends. Interestingly, I’ve never heard someone make a single pos...

I know a few guys that have gotten the same letter. As far as I can tell it is often based on BMI with no other contributing factors.

Waste of time. Would be nice if they would just let the doctors do their jobs.

Re: Turn That Master Off For a Forced Approach

What are the thoughts on cracking the door prior to impact? I remember during my PPL I was taught by one instructor to unlatch the door prior to touchdown, in the event that the airframe bends and stops the door from opening. I never heard it again from anyone else. On one hand you don't want your d...

Re: Annoying pilot "friends"

There's a difference between someone who's actually your buddy/friend acting like your buddy than someone who you barely know acting as if he's your long lost BFF. "Hey man, I'm out of a job, any chance you guys are doing any hiring" is different than "Hey dude, long time! Remember that time you len...
