Re: Does this situation really require the emergency equipment
Unless there is a clear and imminent threat to the airplane, there is no reason to advise ATC of annunciators or the state of equipment on the airplane. Most controllers aren't pilots, and certainly those who are likely have no idea of the significance of a specific condition unless they're checked ...

Stop making stupid fuel decisions that will kill your passengers and may land you in jail.

Re: If I can't pass my PPL should I give up?
Yes, you should give up. The PPL does not require a high standard and if you are having trouble meeting it, you are not meant to fly.

Re: ATC Layoffs?
Controlling > Piloting
Hence pilots laid off but controllers not.
Easy to train a pilot. Very difficult to successfully train a controller.

Re: ATC application/background check
ATC requires a Secret-level security clearance, with a fingerprint check in Canada (and the U.S., if you've ever resided there), and a 10-yr history of where you have lived.
Not sure what associations are checked as part of the Secret level clearance.

Re: Kobe Bryant chopper crash
This whole thing would have been avoided if he hadn't been trying to fly visually while in IMC. Any pilot knows that trying to transition back and forth from visual to instruments at low level is asking for disaster. As demonstrated here.

Re: Encore wrinkles a Dash-8
I wonder if ground workers would walk to their car in the parking lot at the end of their shift and go home or stay inside where it's safe if there's thunderstorms in the area. Really? Are you aware that during a red alert , ramp personnel are not allowed to be on the ramp? I wouldn’t be walking ar...

Just leave that noisy, beaten-up airplane right there to be stripped of its parts.

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max
Huh - I guess my 20+ years dont count for much then - It is pretty cut and dry. I never siad there wasn't a problem that needed attention, just that it doesn't warrent a fleet wide grounding. I can think of many other deadly incidents that never resulted in a grounding. I guess the world's aviation...

Re: Navcanada discontinuing approaches at under-serviced airports
Are the provincial medevac authorities being squeezed for money by NavCanada? How can Nav Canada "squeeze" anyone for money. The whole organization runs on user fees. By act of parliament they can't make a profit. All they are capable of doing is determining where the money goes (and doesn't go any...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max
In addition to a fix for the airplane, if they keep the MCAS system (instead of designing a whole new wing or tail for the airplane), they will have to train the pilots who fly it to deal with its failure. Right now, there is not a single Max pilot in the world who has been trained for this failure...

Can anyone confirm that 737 MAX aircraft were repositioned from YVR to YWG yesterday? (Mar 14)
