Re: IFR Training Relocation

All 5 specialties in Vancouver ACC are short-staffed. Some severely short-staffed.

I doubt they'll just agree to moving trainees who pass generic in Vancouver to other FIRs.

Re: YYZ Training offers?

Hi all, I suppose I'm one of the 8 who received an offer for VFR at YYZ starting spring 2023. Offer received and accepted nov 15 via phone call. My drug test and cat2 medical are booked for tomorrow and I've heard back from some references who have been contacted by Mintz already. I had all but giv...

Re: YYZ Half-Day Bootcamp 2022

If one goes by the "dress for the job you want" at its face-value, wouldn't a hat, t-shirt, and shorts be an ideal attire?

Re: YYZ Half-Day Bootcamp 2022

I know someone who wore a suit to bootcamp and is currently training specialty.

Others didn't wear a suit and got an offer as well.

Bottom line: Suit or no suit won't determine whether you get offered a training spot or not. Not an overkill, but not a must have either.

Re: Any updates on training?

Does anyone know what happens if you pass on an interview from a location you'd rather not move to? For example if I am hoping to work in Montreal but get an offer for an interview for YVR and state it is only for that region, if I don't take it will I be eligible for a future spot in Montreal? Wha...

Re: Any updates on training?

I just saw a post from NavCanada on LinkedIn today that "NAV CANADA is #hiring air traffic controllers and flight service specialists!" I found this strange given that from what I seem to read here, they are only recalling previous trainees/individuals already going through the hiring process, rath...

Re: Any updates on training?

Generic IFR offers have gone out in the YVR region. Is this for new hires? or generic trainees being recalled? Recalls. However, the post directly above indicates that even new hire people in YEG are getting called. There is lots of inconsistency across different FIRs. For example: Toronto FIR hasn...

Re: Any updates on training?

Just to temper the expectations, especially for people in Toronto, Toronto FIR appears to be somewhat behind a few FIRs in resuming training. Still there are a lot of trainees (all generic IFR trainees, and some specialty + OJT trainees) who are yet to be recalled. This was true as of last week, not...

So, this is in-line with what others claimed. FSS first, VFR next, and finally IFR.

Re: Extension to applications??

Not sure when they made this change but looks like nav Canada has subtly made the change on the website. If you are unsuccessful at any step in the hiring process, you must now wait 36 months before reapplying. Before it was 18 months. Similarly, you can be in any stage of the application for up to ...

Status of Generic IFR training that was to start in spring 2020 for Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Toronto

Hi,

If there are people here who were scheduled to start their generic IFR training in spring for above mentioned locations, have you started your training? If no, any word on when you'll be starting? If yes, how far along are you guys?

Thanks. :)

Re: YYZ Feb. 2020

I wonder if the recent crash in air travel due to covid-19 along with the recent pull back in the global equities markets has changed nav Canada’s hiring requirements and is related to the delay in results ? Just speculating !! Highly unlikely because people being tested right now won't be fully ce...

Re: Bootcamp Questions

Funny story from boot camp... Last year in YYZ FIR, we had a candidate who arrived 1.5 hours late on the first day. Reason? He drove to the Air Canada Centre (ACC!) which is in downtown toronto, instead of Toronto ACC (which is in middle of pearson). He did pretty good though, good enough to get off...

Re: Bootcamp Questions

There wasn't any specific dress code that was provided for us, and in my boot camp cohort we had people showing up in a suit and others in a sweat suit. It's really up to you - I personally believe in making a good impression (but also feeling comfortable enough to do my best) so I wore business ca...

Like you would for any job/hiring related event, go there fresh and well rested. Prepare for it like a job interview, and be ready for whatever is thrown at you. Only thing I'd share is: There is something that you will be tested on the second day. You will be given the material that you can take wi...

Re: Medical exam/drug test/clearance

I'd say no need to worry about it right now. I see you are in YYZ FIR, so they give you plenty of time to get medical done once you are given an offer. Trick is to get it done within the first week of receiving the offer, and you'll get it well in advance, even if they end up needing additional test...
