Re: Will Westjet survive?

Sure, whatever. I have 10 years to think about coming back to wj (if it lasts), retain my seniority, and not worry about my job being contracted out to Swissport. You are subject to the CLC and will probably never work for wj again. But hey, the union is horrible. Remember when you guys almost bank...

The summer schedule seems to add some YYC flying.

Re: Hiring outlook

They are always needing people to go to the YYZ base. By some quirk, YYC might be the only base on offer now, but I'd strongly suspect by the time you are done training, there will be YYZ openings. Worst case scenario, you may have to commute for a month or two but there are 8-10 flights a day betwe...

It will take you just slightly longer to apply than it did to write that post.

Apply and let them be the judge.

Good luck.

Re: One List

At this rate, I don't expect to hit mainline until I am at least 35. Ohh, noes! In the not-too-far-ago past, I ran into my initial PPL flight instructor in the concourse in YVR. He'd been at JAzz for ~5years at that point, and was looking at about the same before an upgrade, let alone a shot at mai...

Re: 2020 Hiring

How long is the transfer from YYZ to YYC? Rough numbers, on the Captain side, more than 13 years, and for FOs, more than 2 years. Recently a bunch of FOs have found people in YYC who want YYZ to do base trades with. YYC has become the senior base for FOs, when it used to be YVR, just because there ...

Re: 2020 Hiring

Hi Dave - Thanks for the update! How many internal movements will that hiring generate (ie B737 FO-to-Captain upgrades or 737 FO/ CA to widebody FO / CA slots). Is every newhire essentially replacing a 737 FO who upgraded / transitioned? Or is it a lesser number. Glad to see some movement on the mos...

Re: OTS WesJet Mainline FO

There’s a pretty strong rumour out there that it wasn’t the company that insisted on the bump and flush being removed. Evidently the CEO stated that to one of our crews when he was onboard. Encore pilots should ask their MEC who was responsible for removing this. They might be surprised with the an...

Re: OTS WesJet Mainline FO
Thank you for your insight. What about the MAX? Once released by TC, wouldn't it shorten the upgrade time?
As far as I know, we were staffed back in March-April-May of this past year as if we had the 13 MAX 8s that are grounded, we just covered the shortfall by running the rest of ...

Re: OTS WesJet Mainline FO

Hi guys, Thanks for answering my question and providing some insight. Obviously, no one can predict what the future holds. This rings especially true in aviation. That being said, WJ has some exciting growth opportunities with the addition of 787s, ONEX plans, and the joint venture with Delta. New ...

Re: Future hiring

Well AC bid is out with 800+ vacancies, whats Westjets future vacancies? Any incite on how many pilots Westjet needs? Just an observation that if AC needs 800 pilots how is any other airline, not just Westjet, get even 1 applicant? We have exactly 2 openings on our latest bid. 1 B787 CA and 1 B787 ...

Re: ONEX plans

I agree that Onex has big plans for WestJet. It has been after having a major airline for over two decades and at least an many continents. There is no money in selling WestJet group in pieces. More importantly WestJet group as a whole is worth much more than the sum of its parts. There is no money...

We should make fake resumes and apply. Get scheduled for an interview and then just not show up in mass numbers.

Re: Swoop interview

I dont get all the judgements towards swoop and on the people that ask questions about their process.. what if someone needs to be in hamilton/edmonton for personal reasons, if one need a 737 job for a specific reason etc. I understand it may not be favorable to the WJ pilot group but don't forget ...

Re: Retirement Wave

We have so few retirements that generally when someone does hang it up, you know them by name. Reason being the company is only ~23 years old. Some of the top pages of the seniority list were 25-35 when they were hired. Doing that math, say a 30 year old guy was hired in 1999 + 20 years of WJ, and t...

Re: New WestJet FO

Upgrades are seniority based. As long as your last few sims are clean and you dont have a serious attitude problem you get your upgrade. That seniority list includes encore and swoop. As for swoop who knows what onex has planned. Right now its slated to get 10 aircraft. Who knows if it'll expand or...

Re: New WestJet FO

Of course career moves are based on individuals' situation and preference. As far as WestJet group is concerned, it seems to be poised for significant growth and as such it provides a great opportunity. An opportunity that must be examined carefully by individuals and taken if one sees oneself fitt...
