Re: Holding speed in Canada
AFAIK... Below 10000' ASL the speed limitation is 250kts. So at 6000' 230kts would be acceptable. Below 3000' AGL the speed limitation is 200kts. From CAR 602.32 Airspeed Limitations 602.32 (1) Subject to subsection (2), no person shall (a) operate an aircraft at an indicated airspeed of more than 2...

Re: Initial 30 minute assessment still wonderlic?
Congratulations on passing the first test. If you read the email carefully it likely says that you have 'achieved the minimum pass mark', not that you have 'passed with the minimum mark', an important distinction. From my experience through this process there has never been an indication of how well...

Re: FSS final onboarding for basic training
Hey thanks for the quick reply, perhaps we will be in the same course? Yes my Workday is showing 3 tasks completed which I also did the same day I received the email. What confuses me is that the email specifically listed 'Onboarding Documents' as one of the items, but that is not one of the complet...

FSS final onboarding for basic training
I’ve been accepted for FSS training starting April 2023. Got my offer back in October, went through the steps of medical, drug testing, references and received no acknowledgement or notice that everything was ok. Emailed HR to enquire in December and was told that everything had checked out and I wo...

Re: FIR Transfer
I recently contacted HR and asked this question and basically my email said just what you have. They responded within a few weeks and the answer was in two parts. First, yes they are generally happy to change your FIR preference if that is what you want, however, depending on the stream you have bee...

Re: Change FIR during hiring process?
Update... I decided to wait until the fall training course in YWG had commenced before submitting the request in case an offer was imminent. I did not get an invitation so in early October I emailed HR to ask for a change of FIR. They replied within a couple of weeks and said they would be happy to ...

Re: Upcoming FEAST- what to wear??
The dress in my group ranged from jeans and a t-shirt to shirt and tie. It did not seem to matter to the Nav Canada folks who were taking us through the process that day, but who knows? I dressed up, but I'm comfortable in those clothes. It is definitely a long day, with extended periods of sitting ...

Change FIR during hiring process?
Wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to request changing the FIR you are interested in working in during the application process? I have made it to the 'Eligible for Offer' stage for FSS and am waiting/hoping for an offer. Over the 2+ years since I first applied, life circumstances have ...

Re: Should I Accept An FIC Offer Or Wait For IFR/VFR?
Since you are asking for opinions on what to do, mine is that you should accept the FIC offer and kick butt in the training so you have the best chance of getting posted where you would ideally like to be, if available. As mentioned, there are opportunities to make the move to VFR/IFR in the future ...

Re: Any updates on training?
I did the online panel interview for FSS in early January and one of my questions for them at the end was what would the next steps in the process be if I was successful at passing this stage. They said I would need to attend my regional FIC in person for a half day of further interview and assessme...

Re: Applying theough the “My workday jobs” website
Unless you chose to remove your application from the drop down menu beside it in your Workday profile I doubt you have somehow been 'automatically' withdrawn just because you applied for a second position. However, if you are truly concerned you should reach out to HR and ask them. My experience has...

Re: Background Check Time
Many moons ago I worked airside at YYC and my first red pass required a background check that took a couple of months. I had (and have) no record or other issues that would have raised flags, it just took that long. If the Nav Canada check is at all similar I wouldn't be surprised for it to take tha...

Re: Regarding FSS
Lots to read up on and review. I will keep all of this in mind as I prepare over the next day or so, and be sure to indicate that I am flexible about relocation if asked. Thanks again!

Re: Regarding FSS
Thanks again, I will certainly read up on that, the NC blog has several short articles on it as well as some other interesting stuff including their attempt to be an industry leader in the move away from magnetic north as a navigational reference and equipment requirement. I have a fair bit of exper...

Re: Regarding FSS
Thanks very much.
I have my first interview for FSS this week and am trying to get a better idea of the scope of the different roles so I can be prepared for the "What do you know about Nav Canada and/or FSS" question.

Re: Regarding FSS
Resurrecting an old thread here but maybe someone will chime in...
Kashep, or another FSS, could you elaborate on the FIC/AAS differences? I've read the basic descriptions on the Nav Canada website but am interested to hear more detail if you have the time.
Thanks.

Re: Any updates on training?
There were many tests and I found all but two pretty easy. I don't think I can say anything about those two without breaching confidence. I think the difficulty for most people is not the actual skills being tested but the length of time you have to maintain focus. Consider the job you are applying ...

Re: Any updates on training?
I will try but there isn't much I can tell you because before the testing you are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to not divulge specifics, and I respect that so I won't. Also my testing happened in March 2020 and honestly I have forgotten a lot about the tests themselves. You can find s...

Re: Any updates on training?
Well, I may get to make the decision soon, just got an invite to interview in the new year. I have found some good tips on interviewing with Nav Canada on this forum but if anyone has any more, and specifically for FSS, I'd appreciate hearing them.
