Re: IFR training
I've copied and pasted my reply from a previous thread. Congrats on getting into the course. May not be the exact answer you're looking for but hope this helps a bit. I have read many posts on this forum, reddit and the take charge website that make it very clear that IFR (and VFR / FSS for that mat...

Re: YEG VFR Offer
Rule #1 with Nav is get your foot in the door. You can open the rest once you're in.
If ATC has always been something you've wanted you'll regret not doing it for the rest of your life.
Good Luck

A day most thought/hoped would never come.
I have my own personal thoughts but will wait until I see if others want to discuss it before unloading. Thanks Justin..

Re: APPLICATION FAQ ANSWERS
Nav Canada would be over the moon if IFR checkouts were within the 40-50% range.moosetracks wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 12:08 pm Training qualifications seem to be about 40-50% depending on IFR vs VFR stream and specific IFR specialty.
Solid write up tho

Re: ATC beyond NAV Canada
I personally know a former military controller who had a speciality specific course run just for him. Its 100% on a case by case, FIR by FIR basis. No one goes directly to OJT in any scenario. Some classroom/simulator time is always required. As the poster above me mentions alot of people seem confi...

Re: ATC beyond NAV Canada
Any chance you could find a way to the United States? Find a partner down south, perhaps? You need to be a natural born citizen to work IFR traffic with the FAA. They have independent contract control towers that are privately run but they take people with VFR licences. They dont train people off t...

Re: Application Process Q's
Your question depends on alot of factors. Is it a money aspect? You can easily make over 100k after overtime working fss. Is it about location? Fss can forsure send you to some remote locations. Could I become a controller? If you get through the fss training you could apply to cross train within ~3...

Re: ATC beyond NAV Canada
Not gunna be the answer you're looking for but outside of the military there's no other way in Canada. I've also never heard of any other country training someone who doesn't already have a license. You can re apply like every 18 months but if you can't get past the initial testing it may not be for...

Re: IFR Training Difficulty
I have read many posts on this forum, reddit and the take charge website that make it very clear that IFR (and VFR / FSS for that matter) training is challenging, and I fully get the message. My focus is more on IFR due to the lower check out rate. I would appreciate any feedback on the following q...
