Re: Jumpseat.

I believe that's what the plan is but we haven't heard any details yet.

UPDATE: Just announced, multiple jump seaters is confirmed.

(But we finally lost the AIF battle, it seems.)

Re: Jazz or Porter (in terms of commuting out of yul) ?

Porter has a commuting policy as well. If you'll be commuting they will activate your staff travel and commuting status (we have a priority standby for commuters which bumps you to the top of the list) from Day 1 on Porter only for this purpose. We have a few YUL commuters but it's a pain for new hi...

Lots of "tell me about a time" type questions, nothing technical.

The sim eval is a mini-IFR ride.

Re: Porter Airlines at 55?

Upgrades are happening within the one year mark (as stated above, if you have the required experience.)

Interviews are ongoing for both FOs and DECs.

Pilots may operate as Captain until their 65th birthday, at which point they may retire or continue working as an FO.

Re: Porter Airlines at 55?

We've had several new hires who (to me) look like they're in their 50s or late 40s over the past 6-8 months. A couple of them weren't able to make it through training but then, a couple of younger pilots didn't either. There are usually one or two 40s+ pilots in each ground school which is nothing n...

that worries me, if I go with Jazz or Porter how easy is it to get Halifax as my base?
Over the last couple of years Porter has hired FOs directly to the YHZ base. They just finished another round of interviews in YHZ a month or so ago. However, it's cyclical with industry health/movement.

Re: Interline Agreement

So did you get hired by both Porter and Transat at the same time? I saw your identical post but with Transat as the airline you got hired with... seems a bit strange.... but yes if you indeed are an employee, you’ll find it is PRM 1 suggested above.

Re: Interview call back time ?

Does Porter tell candidates that interviewed if they have been unsuccessful? Are you expected to contact them, or just deduce you've aren't getting hired? I believe all candidates are contacted even if they are unsuccessful. If a reasonable time has passed and you haven't heard anything, you can fo...

Major General R.W. (Bob) Fassold

Bob Fassold passed away last week after a short illness.

A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held in the Ottawa area on August 23, 2018 in the afternoon.
He influenced many people and was a huge resource of anything DHC-1, Comet, and more. All are welcome.

Rotational, 2 weeks on CYFB, then 2 weeks off. They fly you in from CYOW. Accommodation up north is in crew houses. A couple of crews rotate in and out of CYQT, those slots go to bid just a few times a year.

No bond, starting pay is upward of $47K last I heard.

Thanks for reply. How do splits work? Do pilots ever bid on them? You get one day min credit (4h) for that (unless your flight time equals more than 4h, then you get whichever is greater.) or half of your duty period....i.e. YQG CD's. We used to have a CD to Detroit on the RJ, 9+hrs on the ground, ...

Thanks for reply. How do splits work? Do pilots ever bid on them? Splits/continuous duty - evening flight/short rest/morning flight. Duty day is continuous starting in the evening. A typical example is report at 1930 for a 2030 flight. Land at 2200. Go to the hotel. Morning report is around 0530 fo...

Re: Typical sched

would anyone know how long it would take to hold single day pairings? If you're coming in as an FO, the easy answer (without me going in and looking at the bid awards) is about a year. Upgrades are sitting at the year mark so I'd guess after 10-12 months, if you stay as an FO, you'll likely be able...

Re: US/Canada border crossing and meal planning

I love fruits and veggies so US multi-days can be annoying. I have been known to leave oranges and fresh veggies in the crew room to pick up on a later turn, but that's not always ideal. Normally I bring very lightly steamed (more like blanched, I guess) veggies.. I'm on a green bean kick these days...

You just need to get yourself to YOW in time for the morning sched flight the day of your rotation.

I'm not sure how it works with sim and other training.
Ask in the interview...

Rotational is only for the ATR in YFB. YZF has a regular airline-type schedule.

Starting salary (min guaranteed) is around 52,600.
