I saw an interview with local Sherrif who reported one engine was found several miles from crash site.

Re: Recreational Flying?
...unless you’re the chump who doesn’t think anything is going to happen to him, and he ends up dead sticking onto the Autoroute. I’m sure the guy who fueled him up that morning didn’t want to deal with him, nor the dispatcher at the flying club who signed him out, nor the 15-25 emergency responders...

Re: Recreational Flying?
Don’t most accidents happen at home? :smt017 Besides... none of these restrictions have included risk mitigation strategies like you’d think they would in order to lower the healthcare burden. Like not using power tools or eating scotch mints or having a shower. Actually, in BC we have been asked t...

Re: Near collision at Brampton
“Couple that with the hassle factor of looking up the phone number and or trying to dial, while flying, in the already uncertain situation of not being able to raise anyone on the radio” Agreed. So much easier to deal with the opposite end landing and runway excursion Do you really think a student ...

Re: Near collision at Brampton
In a separate thread, we read about a King Air crew who, faced with an electrical failure, elected to contact the Control Tower by cellphone. Perhaps on return from a cross-country with a com failure, the BFC student could have at the very least phoned the flying club or YYZ ATC to get altimeter, lo...

Re: Buttonville Tower set to close in July!
PlanePaully: most likely there won’t be a RA. YYZ 24L/R traffic doesn’t begin descent below 3000 til about 7-8 miles final, well past KZ. The 1000 ft vertical separation needed is for wake turbulence. It is assumed that KZ circuit traffic is of the light weight category while YYZ 24L/R ILS traffic w...

Re: Etiquette with gift to OJI upon checkout
Civet, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you wrote. My personal guideline for initial checkout is to budget a gift equal to one day's overtime. Over a 25-35 year career, it's a drop in a very large bucket. For subsequent checkouts I buy a bottle of the nice stuff. My last checkout was shared be...

Re: Saying passing altitude
My unit (DXB approach) requires us to re-validate Mode C on initial contact, since our Area Control Centre feeding us works on a different radar system. We also check aircraft type on initial contact since some operators are famous at last minute equipment changes. PITA!

Re: Question on income tax for Canadians working abroad
My best advice to you is to not take tax advice from anyone on an aviation forum. All the major accounting firms i.e. Price Waterhouse, BDO, have accountants that specialize in international taxation. They wil be more expensive than your average accountant, but you want someone who can effectively r...

Here go the start of the "what ifs" What if aircraft on ground has passengers who will miss their connections at their destination with any further delay; What if aircraft on ground faces night-time restrictions into destination airport (ie CYTZ); What if crew on aircraft on ground is also thinking ...

With most control zones at a 5nm radius doesn't this become a little too restrictive?

Re: YYC's loved "F" word
So you arrive into YYC airspace and you're number 3 in sequence. No airborne delays, burning fuel in a hold. Sounds like a flow control system that is working properly.
