Re: New AOC 12yr Engine TBO
As a new operator, you're likely going to be stuck with the manufacturer's recommendations (no matter where they're located). You may get some relief on the calendar time this time by working with your PMI, but in the future you'll have to go on condition or use teardown reports to get TBO escalatio...

From the information notes with CAR 625... 625.10 Unserviceable Equipment - Aircraft without a Minimum Equipment List Information Note: The following provisions, although considered advisory in nature, have been included in the main body of these standards due to their importance. They are not stand...

Re: Weekend Annuals.
OK, that`s really splitting hairs, but... That means that it`s the owner`s responsibility to ensure that you (the person who discovered the defect) write it into the journey log. Unless... you discovered it while something was disassembled (for example, with the cowlings off) STD 571.03: (1) A perso...

Re: Suggestions for Toolbox?
I have seen guys travel with a rifle case - your tools are all laid out neatly in the foam & no need to lift out trays - everything is visible. I'm tempted to go the same way - it's half the cost of a pelican case and about the same weight. (Plus, they're sturdy and have good strong lock attachments).

Re: AME apprenticeship?
ICS will require the tech exams at the end, plus CARs.
Stevenson is 9 weeks a year - you can collect EI & (sometimes) a housing allowance. The tech exams are covered in the training - at the end, you will (only?) need to write CARs.

Re: Aircraft Painting
I agree that a small repair to a cowl or a fabric patch is elementary maintenance - and to complete that repair properly, you need to paint it. However, repainting a complete aircraft is maintenance, requiring a maintenance release. Touch-ups are a grey area in the regulations, but common sense shou...

CAR 101.01: "maintenance" - means the overhaul, repair, required inspection or modification of an aeronautical product, or the removal of a component from or its installation on an aeronautical product, but does not include (a) elementary work, (b) servicing; or (c) any work performed on an aircraft...

Re: Shift work raises risk of heart attack and stroke
Yes, diet and exercise can reduce your risk factors, but that still can't totally compensate for the added baseline stress of trying to sleep during the day (daylight, traffic noise, lawn mowing, phone ringing), trying to adjust a sleep schedule by 16 hours over a two-day weekend, and not seeing fam...

Re: Private vs commercial maintained aircraft
It depends on usage and storage - I've seen a commercial 172 with 12000 hours that was in good shape (ex-flight school, lots of damage history, but is was repaired properly) and a private one with under 1500 hours that sat out in a field for 20 years. The 12000 hour plane needed a structural repair ...

Re: Gatineau Police Ask cow if he feels lucky
I counted 12 shots... Seriously, are people that scared of cows? It wasn't being aggressive at all - when it was running towards the cops, it was angling to go around them. I hope that the people of Gatineau realize that their police should never be allowed near a farm. (And are the type who will sh...

Re: Looting Teens in Aylmer Kill Good Samaritan
I thought that manslaughter used to be for semi-accidental things (such as hitting a pedestrian while driving recklessly). This should be second-degree murder - deliberately killing someone (if you beat someone up so badly that they die, you can't say that it was an accident: "I swear, your honour, ...

Re: Fake Jets Jerseys : Guess where from????
An unequal playing field could be defined as using child labor or not having any environmental / safety regulations to make a cheaper product. It's sleazy, it's unethical by our standards, but it's not illegal. Making fakes is illegal. Infringing on copyrights is illegal. Infringing on patents (such...

Sure - and Generation X can blame the baby boomers. Does it feel better that it's someone else's fault? Does it change anything? The fact is we have a bunch of people joining the industry who have no skills, no work ethic, and worse yet, no sense of the responsibility they bear by working on / near ...

No, I'm talking about the ones that are worn all the time - something like this: http://www.stearnsflotation.com/33-Gram-AutoManual-Inflatable-Easy-Repack-Series-PFD-P1407C17.aspx The problems with the ones in the pouch are that people either forget to grab one, can't get it out of the pouch on time...

They need to come up with something a bit more specific: The problem with a regular life jacket is it may hold you at the top of the cabin (or whatever happens to be the top at the time), preventing you from being able to go down to reach the door. The inflatable vests with the cartridge work - I've...

Re: Conservative Commentator Attacks Muslim Mob with Canon!
I would not be cool with it, but beyond asking politely to stop (or, if there are police standing by, asking them), all you can legally do is try to block the shot. There is no reason to try to destroy a camera or attempt to harm a person. I will admit that race is the only reason that this made the...
