Re: Beaver wages
$9000/month was offered to me by a couple of places this spring. Relatively low-timer here.

Air Hart in Kelowna is a great place to do it. Beautiful places to fly and a LOT less busy than doing it out of Fort Langley.

If you haven't yet, check out the book Papa Kilo. It's a first-hand account of a former Susi Air pilot, a simple and enjoyable read.

Casio Illuminator. Forty bucks, dual-time (UTC), stopwatch, easy to read, don't care if it gets scratched. Perfect watch for going deep in the bush in a Beaver.

Re: Float Flying for low time Pilot
Many of the operators are looking, especially right around now when So-and-So didn't show up. Get on Pilot Career Center, find the listing of the float operators in Canada, and start sending out resumes. Carpet bomb them and wait for a bite.

Re: Floatplane pilots
why would anyone break their backs in the middle of mosquito heaven lifting outboards and propane tanks when they can get in with an airline, That's a parallel question. Some pilots prefer single pilot, more adventure, than right seat scheduled operation, gate to gate. To each their own..... My poi...

Re: Floatplane pilots
As I posted in the Salary section last month, offers received to fly a Beaver on floats this season ranged from $26/hr on the coast of BC, to $8500/month in NW Ont. Two other offers from NW Ont were $6000 and $6500/month. All of the above included accomodation. That recent ad for a turbo Beaver posi...

Re: Flying the beaver
And how about for setting up to do an inspection pass? What would the usual steps be for power/pitch/flaps, and, if one wanted to gain back some altitude after the pass, go back to climb settings, or, something a bit different? What's the best method for knowing when you have the mix leaned out corr...

Re: How will Immediate roadside prohibition affect career as an airline pilot ?
Call Pardons Canada and ask them how soon that can be expunged from your police record. You don't have a criminal record, but the RCMP will keep a record of that on file indefinitely until you have it expunged. That being the case, getting an RAIC before then would be a challenge, imo, though I'm ce...

Re: Interim Certficate of Registration (Transfer Ownership of Aircraft)
As mentioned, your original post was a bit confusing. As you later clarified, you meant that you received the CofR from the previous owner. If that CofR has no Interim CofR attached, then you do not have what you need to fly the aircraft yet. You will need to wait until you receive the new CofR from...

Re: Arctic King Air captain, 1200 TT, 100 MPIC
Apparently those are scary minimum requirements for those experienced and in the know, but, for the guys with less than 750 hours, the "pilot shortage" is but a dream. It's slim pickens for the greenhorns.

Re: Susi Air
Depends where you work there and here. There have been plenty of captains making 10-15k USD per month at Susi (and some other operators) from what I have been told. That said, last I heard Susi Air was trying to reduce costs. No idea if that affects pay or not. WTF. Where are you getting your infor...

I needed to show proof of a Class 1 medical in order to receive an exam date. That was for Victoria, BC in March 2022.

Re: Landing at night before the lighted displaced threshold
I believe that it is legal, but the real question is why would you want to? The PAPI or VASI are (I believe) aligned for a night approach of 3°, or even 2.5° (which will be noted in the CFS). The displaced threshold assures the pilot of sufficient clearance on approach when coming in at the regular ...

As the previous reply states, if you skip the videos, it'll be much, much faster. I started the course in mid-November, and have been studying quite steadily for going on three months. However, that is having watched every video and trying to be "responsible" with my learning. If you just want to cr...

And what happens if you don't get the annual done within the time limit? Asking because I've owned a 150G for less than a year, and it's coming up on its due date. I'm overseas and not keen on coming back to three days of hotel quarantine and a bill for 2k. So, curious as to repercussions associated...

Re: Flight Training On Vancouver Island?
Call around to as many people as it takes you to find a freelance instructor, ideally one who isn't working full-time for a flight school. I found one in Edmonton and he has instructed me on my C-150. Ten weeks to get my PPL. Schools are the slow way to go.

Re: Renting out your privately registered aircraft
Being the name insured, I believe that I will also be able to rent out to those with a PPL or higher (likely those with a PPL building time towards their CPL will be interested) as long as I'm onboard. My idea is to just come along for the ride and get good at using foreflight, radio proficiency, a...

Re: Renting out your privately registered aircraft
I'm going to be buying a Cessna 150 this week for my own flight training. It will be legal for me to train as it will be mine. The flight instructor will be covered because the name insured (me) is onboard. Being the name insured, I believe that I will also be able to rent out to those with a PPL or...
