Re: Jobs, pay, and fun

I'll pipe up here, along the same lines as DockJock. My experience will parallel yours, but, in the reverse direction. I went from flying to software, and now do both. Great post! Interesting hearing from someone coming from the other direction. It gives me much to think about. As long as I've been...

I probably shouldn't say it but I will anyways. Most big airlines look for the famous phrase "hours commensurate with age". At 30 you should have sometime in your book. Well, in my business, they expect us to have 15 years experience with a programming language which has only been around for 5. Alt...

Jobs, pay, and fun

From another thread... Now I totally agree that the supply demand thing is true. <nice big cut> If the training was to go public and allow colleges to offer certified training you would very quickly see your job become as poorly paying as ours. So... I posted a while back about my eye exam. Turns ou...

FYI The standard requiring your vision to be 20/200 or better uncorrected (and a correction factor of no more than 3.0 diopters) has not been enforced in years. This would make me very happy...I hope you are right. I'm correctable to 20/20 but fail the uncorrected part. Thanks. Edit: PS - I hate th...

Failed Vision Requirement: Eye Surgery?

Hi, I went in for a fam flight the other day. What a blast... I can't wait to go again. So I need to get the medical done before I sink too much cash into it. The doc says to get a new prescription and bring it to the appt. Today I went to the eye doc and got the bad news. I didn't think my eye were...

I think this may put CF in the lead a bit. Since they are a bit north, the training grounds must be closer. I know what you mean about Buttonville being very busy - I work next to the airport and watch the flights going up and down constantly. But a short walk and an after/before/during work flight ...

Interesting. I never considered the training area distance issue, I imagine this distance could eat up a few exta $ over the entire course. I'll have to find out more about this from both schools.

Thanks!

PPL - TAL @ Buttonville or Canadian Fliers @ Markham

Hello everyone, I've decided I would like to learn to fly but I'm having trouble deciding which one of these schools I should use. I've narrowed down to TAL and Canadian Fliers mostly based on their location - both are about 15km from me which is nice. Has anyone here been trained by by Toronto Airl...
