Re: Can you pay your way to air canada
If you want to pay your way, why not do Jazz Approach or another cadet program?

Re: Constant wear life jackets interference with seat belts
Yes, a seatbelt and life jacket saved my life, I wear them both when flying from the water. An underwater egress course is a good idea too! Maybe a dumb Q, if you are in a submerged or half submerged airplane, could the lifejacket actually hinder you escaping especially if you've flipped? Great que...

Re: Random drug tests?
Can I expect to take another drug test working at nav Canada or just for pre employment? More importantly than passing/failing an employers drug test, as an ATC you can expect to be providing key information to people who are flying heavier than air machines. People will be relying on you to perfor...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?
apply now, you might get an answer in 6 months Is the application really that long? At that rate, it would take multiple years to finish the testing. Is it sped up for "more promising" candidates, or is it the same timeline for everyone, regardless of if they barely pass or absolutely rock the test...

Re: What is salary upon completion of training?
As an IFR controller you can easily, and I mean easily break 300k(400k is doable with maximum seniority and supervisor pay) yearly. That's not even close to maxing out on overtime either. The quoted salaries on the Nav Canada website are so low I don't know any controller who makes anything near th...

You guys should be doing the same, if not better than us in the US. I'm a junior Alaska Airlines captain, and hustling this year I'm going to make $370,000 (usd) Awesome that you joined this group three days ago. Send us a pic of your pay stub. Of course, blur out the personal info. :) Here ya go. ...

Re: Transit bus driver salaries can be $160,000 per year
Where's the danger pay for pilots? It's interesting you're asking for danger pay when you're working in what's supposed to be the safest form of transportation.... You're not likely to crash, but you're making some big health sacrifices by spending long times sitting idly while getting bombarded wi...

Re: Moving around the country and out of province vehicles?
Assuming your car is in good enough condition it costs about $200 to get it safetied. Then you bring the safety report to the licensing office and trade them your old license and registration for the new one. It takes about an afternoon and a few hundred bucks, but it's cheaper than trading in your ...

Re: BCIT Jazz Approach
If you have the money to pay for it, a level of maturity from already being in the workforce for a decade or so, and don't want to "pay your dues" up north, is the BCIT JAPP worth it? Or are you better off going through a mom/pop school in the lower mainland (I have a family, so I'd like to stay aro...

It's recommended that aircraft carry ELTs, but not mandatory. You're incorrect. Re: Missing Caravan
WTF is Maj. Emmanuelle Gratton, an Air Task Force Commander, talking about "not all aircraft have transmitters". Irresponsibly ambiguous for a SAR Commander. I'm not sure what is wrong with the quote. It's recommended that aircraft carry ELTs, but not mandatory. It would have helped a lot in this c...

I couldn't find anything, and I think the SIM cards are different size from smartphones. You might want to fill out a paper contact book with your contacts (at least the more important ones).

Re: Ottawa Area Flying School
Most recent experience was RFC in 2021 Thriving club culture, good supervision of junior instructors and an adequate number of aircraft. OFC; nice place, nice people but not enough aircraft to get bookings consistently. RFC is a shadow of its former self. Think the culture there is good? You should...

Re: Practicing with Twizzles
Gotcha, I thought that you meant something more along the lines of "Turn from 180 to heading 275, roll out in 45 seconds, while climbing 300' ". Your version seems like it would cause less of a helmet fire.

Re: Practicing with Twizzles
I remember a Twizzler being a timed turn with a rate of climb. The goal being to initiate the turn and the climb, while starting your timing, and roll out of the turn at the altitude. You'd be given a target altitude, and a target heading, and you'd have to work out the rate of climb / rate of turn...
