Re: IFR recency and the 6/6/6 rule

If you look at the bottom of the gazette, it indicates that the regulation changes for instrument currency come into force 6 months after the changes were published in the gazette. So double edged sword: a grace period for those that would be impacted by the removal of the 13th month marker, but for...

Re: Harvs Air

The track log of one of the aircraft shows they were doing circuits at CJB3 and then returned to CKK7 by joining the circuit straight in downwind. Looks like the aircraft was on final when it happened.

In what order would you train?

So, I am looking at a float rating and a taildragger checkout.

I'm likely going to do one this year and the other next year.

What order would you take them? I won't regularly be flying either once I get the rating/checkout

Re: What was your hardest and easiest licence/rating?

between PPL, Night and group3 IFR, I would say:

The PPL was the most difficult, however I performed the worst on the Grp 3 - I scheduled the fight test on a day I shouldn't have, so I didn't set myself up for success.

Float Rating in BC

Hi All, I will be out in Whistler in September of this year and was considering extending my stay to do a basic float rating ( thinking that doing a float rating there would be more enjoyable than up and down the Red River). Looking for some input/recommendations on flight schools in BC for this. Wa...

Re: INRAT Question

Sorry for the long delay before responding. I think I found the answer - as long as you take a flight test within 24 months of writing, then the INRAT validity doesn't expire as long as it's a partial re-test. Explain? The flight test guide states that for an initial flight test, a candidate must pr...

Re: INRAT Question

There may be an exemption in place that I don't know about, but otherwise this is not correct. You don't have to re-write the exam after the rating is issued because the emphasized portion in the CARs quote above no longer applies (because the instrument rating doesn't expire, you just lose recency...

Re: What IFR time counts for an IFR rating

Yeah, I'm kind of an odd duck when it comes to my ratings ( I'm one of those people that completed a night rating prior to CPL). The 14.5 is carry in, and in my haste I didn't break that out: 10.6 from my PPL 2.7 was as part of my night rating 1.2 is with a qualified individual ( post PPL and night ...

What IFR time counts for an IFR rating

Been having a discussion with my IFR instructor as to what hours count for the IFR time needed for a flight test The 50 xc is straight forward, no issues there. The max 20 hrs sim is straight forward. Where we are disagreeing is the 40 hrs total. I have a bunch of hours that I did in my PPL, so carr...

Re: INRAT AEROCOURSE Workbook and Dauntless

I did the aerocourse intensive and it was awesome.

I got the Dauntless app to do quizzes, which really helped a lot as well.

Re: INRAT Question

I wrote my INRAT last year. IIRC, there is an odd quirk with it. It's valid for 2 years from date of writing. UNLESS You attempt a flight test before the 2 years expires. That increases the validity to indefinite. So as long as you attempt an IFR flight test within 2 years of writing it ( attempt, n...

Logging hours outside of Canada

I'm a PPL who is travelling to the US in Feb.

If I rented an aircraft while in the US, do I need to do any type of conversion with FAA?

What if I fly dual with a CFI? Can I log those hours? Or am I basically just a passenger unless I do a conversion test with FAA?

I did the in-person course in the spring.

It was super helpful. I still have my notes if you have questions.

Re: Night Currency

You can still do night flying, just not with passengers? Can you do 5 solo night take offs and landings to regain your currency for passengers? Correct. It's OK to crash/kill yourself, but less desirable to do it with passengers. That's what I thought. You know how sometimes, your brain just goes "...

Night Currency

Odd question - but I can't see a clear answer to this. If you want to carry passengers at night, you have to do 5 take offs and landings at night within the last 6 months. So, what happens if you exceed the 6 months? You can still do night flying, just not with passengers? Can you do 5 solo night ta...

Re: Instrument rating credit for CPL

When I started my night rating, my instructor opened a CPL per for me since the NR is part of the CPL. My next step is the IR and I plan on using it to cover the CPL instrument requirements. I don’t expect that it will eliminate all the dual time, just the instrument time

Re: Have you had Laser eye surgery?

I had my eyes done prior to commencing flight training. I had monovision PRK Laser. The monovision correction is essentially Lasik for bifocals - they adjust one eye for far and one for near. It took quite a while dealing with Transport Canada on this to have them accept the treatment for my CAT 3 m...

Textbook for Instrument Rating

I'm about to embark on an online Instrument Rating course. In looking at both Hangaar and pilottraining.ca, I can see if either of them recommended a specific companion textbook. Does it matter what textbook you use? For those that have written the INRAT, what textbooks did you use? I'm thinking of ...
