Re: Emirates
Haha, are you from Alberta by any chance? Did that hit a nerve? The writing is on the wall and the Saudis know it. Wasn't there a coup attempt a couple of weeks ago in Riyadh that they're trying to cover up? The arrests were done by the crown Prince, he's already in power, he's consolidating it. Th...

Re: Emirates
This may be a dumb question, but can you bring your dog? Seems like walking would be terrible and you wouldn't have a yard to ignore him in, and that he'd die in the yard. Especially with a active breed, for example the most active breed you can find. What is life like for a expat dog in Dubai? And,...

Re: Circuits and Phraseology at Uncontrolled Airports
The ones in the circuit had right of way, if that's what you were asking. The aircraft taxiing out could have asked if the circuit traffic would like to change direction to match the wind, but if they decline for any reason the traffic on the ground should be taxiing to take off in line with traffi...

Re: Buffalo again
LOL. Of course you don't need to do two years on the ramp to learn how to fly. It's a free market and airlines are running for-profit businesses. If they don't put you in a flying position, it's because there is not demand for someone of your qualifications (which is not to say your abilities ,) whi...

Re: Circuits and Phraseology at Uncontrolled Airports
Ok it's controlled VFR traffic when the vis drops below 3 miles. The VFR guys don't really use it much when that wx happens, but when they do they have to hold outside the zone for even scheduled IFR departures. Clearances are called in from FSS to IFR enroute controllers and relayed through the MF....

Re: Buffalo again
Nurses don't then become doctors. Two completely different jobs. Like rampies and pilots. Yeah that's why it's an analogy and not a scientific theorem. It's only analogous, and lol he made the analogy to medicine and law. Bad analogy. Fully trained doctors do not work as nurses for 2 years to becom...

Re: Buffalo again
Flying around talking on the radio and flying approaches is super important and it's nice that they're afforded an opportunity to learn a trade that will set them up for life but, lol, we don't actually need them for that. Maybe it was different where you were an FO. But when I was an FO we swapped...

Re: Circuits and Phraseology at Uncontrolled Airports
The pilot has to determine the runway, but It’s not an entirely free choice. 02.96 (1) This section applies to persons operating VFR or IFR aircraft at or in the vicinity of an uncontrolled or controlled aerodrome. . . . (3) The pilot-in-command of an aircraft operating at or in the vicinity of an ...

Re: Buffalo again
It would be like expecting resident doctors to scrub toilets or articling clerk to wash partners’ cars. Throwing bags and driving a forklift doesn’t do anything to improve your piloting skills, and in the meantime your actual piloting skills are atrophying. Ah no this isn't true. It would be more l...

Re: Circuits and Phraseology at Uncontrolled Airports
One can afford to fly, one can perhaps afford a handheld, for safety.... Maybe the problem is that more people stop relying on radios and look out the window -- I personally think that Ab initio pilots learn to fly initially without the use of a radio. People simply don't keep a good watch anymore,...

Re: First Job
Pre-script: Of course Rockie was right as he always is, you are a better equipped pilot with automation than you are without. It makes less mistakes than you do. It broadens your ability to scan. It doesn't fly for you but it is kind of like having another free hand and eye. Does getting the fifty h...

Re: First Job
If a float operator will pay me 200+ a year to work 10 days a month I’ll fly floats. Oh. And a pension. Benefits. Travel benefits. Good disability. Fair treatment. I think it is your misunderstanding. No offence to the float guys but I always chuckle when I hear pilots say the airlines aren’t a ver...

Ah yeah I agree Nars is a rough one, but I think you cruised in their easily come on, you know what speed you were gonna be doing before you left, and I dont think a professional as experienced as yourself would have any trouble with that one. It's just an arc. If you don't see it you'd go to your a...

Re: First Job
Then there were the next three legs that were not so easy weather wise Wick to Keflavik Iceland which was a bit more difficult. The next leg was the most risky Keflavik to Narsarsuak Greenland due to the height of the Greenland icecap and the quickly changing weather in the summer at Narsarsuak wic...
