Re: Negotiations
I know AC doesn’t care about jazz and probably sees us as a hot mess but I’m hopeful we will get something for this. You have to go back to the root of the issue. Air Canada did not choose to ignore Jazz pilots and fill new hire classes with “outsiders” … Jazz could not release them. It’s my opinio...

Re: Negotiations
tbf Mr "crewbunk" says some outlandish things on other forums as well. Can you cite an “outlandish thing” Mr. Crewbunk has stated that was incorrect? I know mergers, it was the subject of my MBA Aviation dissertation and have participated in many mergers since, both personally and union consulting....

Re: Negotiations
Seeing as how both companies are ALPA, I'm sure they would respect the time and service put in by senior Jazz pilots and find an amicable solution. I mean Jazz ALPA isn't dealing with ACPA anymore so I would expect some reasonability in negotiations in the event of a merger or take over. By the tim...

Re: Maybe we should work together?
The funny thing is interacting with a few of the Jazz pilots, there is still some deep rooted belief, with time and loyalty, that they could get....gasp....DOH at AC. I have been in far too many airline mergers and I can opine that it is so unlikely, you’d have to say never. But …. experience tells...

Re: Question about AC Staff Travel "Premium Bundle"
The 2 in PY2 is a priority ranking, not an accounting code. While it is less relevant for positive space travel, a PY2 would be deplaned before a PY1 in the event of downguage or oversell. Same as priority B1 trumps a C1 which trumps a C2 which trumps a C4, etc etc. This is somewhat incorrect. (It’...

Re: Question about AC Staff Travel "Premium Bundle"
1. What does that mean? (PY2/J12)? What priority is PY2? I think J12 is just J class upgrade? Do we get J upgrades on this? P is positive space, Y in economy. Disregard the 2, it’s just for accounting, and is not a priority ranking. /J indicates, you will be upgraded to J (or O) space available. Di...

Re: A Happy Right Seater
Doesn't one just slide over with one's YOS?? At some airlines, yes. But, for example, 20 YOS might get you close to the top of right seat 777, it would only get you barely half way in the left seat. There will always be a quality of lifestyle change going from F/O to CA. (Unless you were going F/O ...

Re: Transair Flight 810 Crash NTSB report
It was on the 737-200, at CP. The concept was, you took off using fuel from the mains. Through 3000’, you powered up the centre tank pumps and lost both engines due to contaminated fuel. With both engines (and generators) lost, the AC fuel pumps are no longer powered, leaving the mains to gravity fe...

Re: How long until you hear back from AC?
Training pay starts when training starts. “Home Study” through the training apps is monitored, acknowledged, tested and stored …. and is regarded by Transport Canada as approved training. You will receive direction on how to accomplish this training. It is required and you are paid. Once you are on ...

Re: How long until you hear back from AC?
I’m not sure what you are calling “no shows”. I’m in the training department, (I’m an A330 IOETC), and I see no “no shows” for PIT courses. Namely, those who have accepted an offer, then didn’t show up. What there has been though, are two Westjet pilots that when offered a course, they declined. Pro...

Re: Negotiations
AC made a choice. In response, my no overtime policy will continue. I wonder which one will cost more money in the end? I’m curious, what choice do you feel AC made? It wasn’t AC that stopped hiring Jazz pilots, it was Jazz that wouldn’t release them. Honestly, I don’t think AC gives a rat’s ass fr...

Quite the opposite. He came from the training department. Was an IOETC, then Line Check Pilot, then project pilot during the 787 introduction. You guys are talking about different people, the Senior VP is who Crewbunk is referring to. The newly promoted VP FOPs was an MEC member, who after being re...

Re: Negotiations
The VP of Flight ops at AC, from my understanding, despises us, and hates that the regionals have jets. He is literally living in an old world, using old world thinking to try and solve new problems. The guy is a tool. Do you have a source for such a statement? In the 6 or so years, that he’s held ...

Re: Transair Flight 810 Crash NTSB report
Many years ago, during training on the Jurassic, the instructors would give you a dual engine failure in a descent. It often got misdiagnosed as a loss of both engine driven generators. The one I always liked was a dual engine failure on climb out due to centre tank fuel contamination. Lose both en...

Re: Denying Overtime
don't you think they removed it so you guys lose bargaining capital on ''winning'' them back over ? Exactly! And with 2000 cancellations and delays over the long weekend, wasn’t that a good idea? The mood of the present MEC is that there will be no bargaining capital. There will be no concessions “...

Re: Denying Overtime
If AC decided to cancel flat pay and give a 30% raise tomorrow, all this would end. And … it would still be cheaper than the summer disaster that’s presently brewing. And why would they? Read what I said again. It’s not what you think is right. It’s not what you think is market value. It’s not what...

Re: Denying Overtime
For any airline management on here, the best way forward is to approach the union negotiating team and ask what they want. Engage in good faith talks and come to tentative agreements on as many items as possible. Do your best to give the pilots the big ticket items that they need. If you don't, you...

Re: Denying Overtime
In my opinion, the B1 issue was the final straw. The last few years have been rife with little issues, enforced by management, that step by step made the job harder and much less rewarding. I think, the pilots finally realized they were in a pot of boiling water with the frogs. While AC would like t...

Re: 312 flights cancelled in the last 4 days.
Right, and I am sure canceling 10 to 20% of their regional flights everyday was all part of the plan too. That's why they sold seats on them, so not to run them. Because of this brilliant plan. Oh, I don’t disagree, just don’t be surprised if in twelve months from now, you’re not saying, “Holy crap...

Re: 312 flights cancelled in the last 4 days.
Mr JBI is right. That will shrink Jazz and give more flying to PAL. That will help Chorus leave the CPA as they are transitioning into a leasing company mainly. Or …. just conjecture here … maybe AC wanted out of the CPA and when Chorus/Jazz couldn’t fulfill their contractual obligations, they saw ...

Re: 312 flights cancelled in the last 4 days.
I have no doubt something is coming and they will try to screw pilots again. But I don't see any master class moves happening. It’s probably just more than three decades of experience talking. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat back and thought, “what the hell are they doing? Why would they a...

Re: 312 flights cancelled in the last 4 days.
If flow was being honoured it would be 2+ per day. Makes you wonder what the end game is at Jazz. These are two excellent points. Funny that current pilot resignations are less than the previous agreement. The end game at Jazz? With my far too long time at AC, one thing I have learned … At any one ...
