+1 for Guelph. Restaurant is great, and there's always lots of cool birds out and about on a good weather day.

Re: Dealing with Civil Aviation Medicine
Renewing my CAT 1, after taking a year off of flying to treat some mental health issues. CAME told me it was gonna be 15 months to get cleared, and my medical is probably gonna restricted to dual-pilot a/c only. Tell me, how am I supposed to finish my CPL/work, while only being allowed to fly dual p...

Re: Northern Canada Flight Schools for CPL (Yukon and NWT) and Living/Working Conditions
I've heard really good things about Alkan, and Whitehorse seems like a great place to live. I was all set to start there in the fall, but the cost of living is insane. Rental market is comparable to lower mainland BC. So instead of going to Whitehorse for school+flying, I'm going to school in BC, sa...

Re: Medical Delays
Wouldn't you be good to fly as soon as the doctor stamps the medical? It's a renewal, not an initial. They could always ask for more information afterwards, but if it takes them 15 months to ask you those extra questions, then that's on them, not you. Theoretically, but as I have been taking an SSR...

Re: Medical Delays
Oh boy, hope something changes soon. Going to renew my CAT 1 after taking time off for mental health treatment. Hope its not as much of an ordeal as it was to get my FAA medical though (Took a full year to get approval due to a heart condition, despite already holding a valid TC CAT 1) Wouldn't you...

Looking for a place to do my CPL/Multi/IFR in British Columbia
Thinking about doing my CPL/Multi/IFR next fall/winter, and looking for some opinions. I don't want to do a college program, just something self-paced, so I can crank it out as fast as I can. I live in Kamloops, but the only option here is CFC (of very questionable reputation). Thinking about Air Ha...

Re: Anxiety
I wonder about self medicating with CBD oil. I know someone who finds smoking it as well as eating it helps her anxiety. Does the 28 days toke to yoke cover CBD oil? You can't. Despite TC's ruling, lots of pilots aren't aware of that. I know quite a few folks who use CBD products to treat various a...

I've got a friend that flies Twotters for them, in Antarctica. He seems to really like it. I think he did dispatch for them in Calgary for awhile before he got a seat.

Re: Working the dock at Harbour Air
Thanks for the detailed replies everyone. Couple of things. 1, I don't have my CPL yet, currently dealing with some medical stuff, as well as going to University. 2. I'm not particularly hot on a career at Harbour, Vancouver is nice, but too urban (and expensive) for me long term. I was only thinkin...

Working the dock at Harbour Air
Going to school in Kamloops, and looking for a gig for the summer. Trying to get on as a dispatcher for the airtanker base here, but intrigued by working the dock for Harbour, with the possibility of moving up to a Twotter FO spot in a few years. Plus, the GF lives in Vancouver. The wage there doesn...

Re: Pay for float time or buy a share to build time on land?
So you need about 60 hrs time building before you commercial. How much is the champ? figure 4-5 gph at cruise so 20l at 1.80 36$/hr, figure 50$/hr for reserves maybe 3000 for insurance and 75/month for parking. so for 100 hrs figure 3600 gas/5000 reserves/3000insurance/800 parking, so around 12k fo...

Re: Pay for float time, or buy a share to build time on land?
cost per hour for timebuilding(70) ish hrs should more than pay for your 7 hrs float champ is what 4gph, and say 50 for reserve plus insurance, and hangar vs 170-200 for a 172. Also many rentals wont let you fly to yzf to bug people about a job. Yeah, all operating costs included, the Champ is arou...

Re: Pay for float time, or buy a share to build time on land?
Buy into the Champ!!!!! The experience you’ll gain, just in hangar talk and grassroots aviation will far outweigh a few extra hours on floats. And the friends and experiences you’ll get flying around are priceless. Plus, owning the plane will hopefully teach you about ‘operating’ equipment and taki...

Re: Pay for float time, or buy a share to build time on land?
I'd say go for the Champ time, get your CPL, and then worry about floats. The difference between having a float rating (7hrs) and having 50hrs may seem like a lot, but you'll still be an entry level float pilot with those times. Insurance companies require 25 or 50 hrs on floats before you can take...

I wish, need to find some rich family to adopt me. Definitely can't afford the operating costs of a floatplane.

Only way I can get float time is dual at the moment, so it would be 50hrs float dual vs 100hours wheels pic

Re: Pay for float time or buy a share to build time on land?
No, it doesn't have floats, although I wish it did. Putting them on is also not really an option.RedAndWhiteBaron wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 10:06 amThat's an excellent point. You may actually be able to put floats on the Champ and still come out ahead. I have no idea what would be involved with that though.

Pay for float time or buy a share to build time on land?
Posted this over in the employment forum, but figured I'd find more specific advice here. I'm a 90hr PPL building time towards my CPL (Should be done CPL+Group 1 by next spring). I don't really have any desire to go to the airlines, and would prefer to stick with seasonal bush flying, and eventually...

Pay for float time, or buy a share to build time on land?
Hi folks, I'm a 90hr PPL building time towards my CPL (Should be done CPL+Group 1 by next spring). I don't really have any desire to go to the airlines, and would prefer to stick with seasonal bush flying, and eventually firefighting. I've saved up enough to get around 50hrs float time (dual only) t...

Logging time in an Experimental?
So a friend of mine has offered me the use of his Champ to build time towards my CPL. However, it was rebuilt, and registered as Amateur Built. So, does time logged in this aircraft still count towards my CPL? I can't seem to find any info online or in the CARs.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!

Re: Guelph airpark (flight school?)
The flight school is back in action, seems kinda sketchy from what I can tell. I inquired with the owner about renting, and was told that I couldn't rent unless he got a copy of my PSTAR exam. Given that I already have my PPL, that seems pretty odd. Obviously I don't have a copy of my PSTAR on hand...
