Re: If not AME then??

Being a technician at Tesla, you are going to top out around $50 an hour. Starting out as a first year apprentice, it's going to take over 10 years before you see that 50 an hour. In those 10 years you have to learn how some of the most complex vehicles on the road work. You are going to be doing a...

Wild guess, but sounds pretty similar to an operation out of The Pas that goes by MA?
I'd wager a toonie on that.

Re: Does Transport Canada even exist?

They exist if you're patient enough. Took them about eight weeks to re-approve me to write CARs for my AME license which I had been approved to do so back pre-Pandemic... Then another couple weeks to get the appointment booked... Holy frig. Got my license finally but not without being up their hole ...

Never heard "Journeyman" used regarding AMEs.

Just "Apprentice" until they're licensed.

Mmm hmm. Very much so. When Rampies south of the border are making Apprentice AME wages even... Big problem.

Re: Sunglasses: To Polarize or Not to Polarize

Was always told to avoid polarized glasses for flying. As an AME and using polarized glasses, it all depends on the angle you look at the surface. Heated windscreens, different displays can vary between brands of sunglasses. Whether they use linear or circular polarization and the angle will determi...

Wow.

Tell us how you really feel. But in less words than Homer's Iliad please.

We have plenty of transferrable skills. I had to use them during the Pandemic lockdowns. Apparently we can work high steel and build gondolas.

Uh, you guys do know that it's already almost done. https://www.piper.com/blog/taking-safety-to-new-heights-meet-garmin-autoland-and-the-halo-safety-system/ It'a not a big stretch to take this from an "Emergency Only" to a field-to-field system. Re: Who should pay for the extra seat for large passengers?

You take up two seats, you pay for two seats. Why make it more complicated than that. You need to use a wheel chair, you pay for a wheel chair. You need assistance and priority boarding because of mobility issues, you pay for it. You're blind and need a guide through the terminal, you pay for it. W...

As far as I know for M1 category fixed-wing there is no Type Course required to sign them out.

I have a couple M1 courses but they were only because I was working at an OEM certified Service Centre for those types.

Re: The Sealand RED V12 Diesel Beaver flies!

Probably because of fuel burn. They're probably running Jet-A in it as it'll work in a diesel engine.

For those operating low with turboprops, they're burning a lot more than a King Air humming along at FL210.

Re: Airline pilots: How much do you use your "travel benefits"?

When I worked for a carrier with benefits (was in Ops / Dispatch) I used them a couple times a year when I could around working all the time. Had passes on WJ and PD and cheap fares on company routes.

Now I'm at a smaller op in Maintenance with zero travel benefits.
