Holy crap. . . forgot about this thread and this forum.
Not that anyone cares but I've been fully qualified for 5 years this month. Tough freakin grind to get that little piece of paper, but its the best job I've ever had.

Re: Descend at pilot's discretion.
Though I do find it strange that surveillance identified in ADS-B airspace YEG always makes us report reaching. Probably just a habit for guys used to working in a non-radar environment. I do it often, even on radar identified aircraft. Sometimes its nice to have the tweak of a guy calling level. A...

Re: changes to ATC pension plan for new hires
I'm on the "B" plan by choice. Ya, it was a bit risky, but it freed up close to 10% of my income for me to invest as I choose. As soon as I made the switch I started dumping 15% of my income into somewhat carefully selected mutuals and ETFs (low MER etc. . .). Keep that up for the next 20 years or s...

Re: ATC encounters
While doing a flight with a buddy of mine to build some PIC time in a C172, we were passing through a local airport that just finished an airshow as we were approaching the control zone. When I made my initial call asking for clearance through, the conversation went like this....: Tower:C172 ABC, c...

Re: Friend Interested
I'm not in YYZ, but if it helps your friend at all, I didn't know a 182 from a 737 when I started training... and I coulnd't have cared less. Now I'm IFR @ YEG ACC. Don't need to know aviation... Nav Can will teach you what you need to know.

Re: How bad did the topic get that it just disappeared.....
I know I'm VERY new here to be commenting on this, but this is way to funny to pass up. At the end of the day, more education or not, plumbers at some point end up elbows deep in human waste... Pilots fly planes. A vast majority of society finds one of those professions WAY cooler than the other. Al...

Hey, maybe I am a moron but I followed this link http://www.yyzacc.ca/salary.htm and I don't really understand what the Increments mean. I was also looking at the salary stuff on the CATCA site. Can someone explain what the increments are and what ATC-0 through ATC-7 mean? Thanks

I don't want to make you feel bad but it took FOREVER. Like I wrote the exam in March '05, got the interview a month later. then heard nothing until like August. Then heard nothing until December. I actually found out I was accepted from the website...not from them. I guess I actually knew for sure ...

I have also heard stories about Edmonton. Thanks for the advice so far. I know a couple people at the centre in Edmonton so I am hoping that may help to soften the blows...or at least have some face to face advice on how far to stick my a$$ up and how far down to put my head... Either way, I can hon...

Future ATC looking for any advice he can get.
Hey, just surfing and found this forum. I am about to commence training for IFR at the Edmonton ACC. Just wondering if there is anything that the folks with experience can tell me to expect. I want to be as prepared for this new adventure as possible. I realize that it will be challenging but I thou...
