Re: OT at Nav Canada
My tower is at a staff of 8, but full staff is 11 so we're short 3. I've never been forced to a work an OT. Most of us do 1 or 2 per month to "do our part" but you can get upwards of 6-8 per month if you said yes to every OT that was available while we're short. Our schedule is 5 days on 5 days off ...

St. John's Airport(YYT) Commercial Flight Restrictions due to lack of Fire Hall Staffing
As of 8 PM local today the only commercial aircraft that can use the airport are Cargo, Medevac, and Flights with 19 or less passengers. Most of the staff at the fire hall went on sick leave citing harassment and bullying at the "toxic" workplace. E0361/22 NOTAMR E0336/22 Q) CZQX/QFFAS/IV/NBO/A/000/...

Re: They build Metros tough!!!!
Why wouldn't ATC offset the approaches of the 2 aircraft so they weren't going to be at the same altitude? Ie call the base turn for the Cirrus until the metro was lower? Not excusing the Cirrus but 700 feet doesn't take long with a strong tailwind on base. Probably because the Cirrus called traffi...

Re: They build Metros tough!!!!
How smart is it to be grounding 150 knots if you're trying to turn final and line up on centreline with traffic on final on a parallel runway 700' to the side? Obviously not very smart. That being said a more reasonable speed is only 5 or 6 seconds of flying time between the parallels. From what I'...

Re: They build Metros tough!!!!
I just can't see how that thing stayed together... On another note: A Key Lime Air Swearingen SA-226TC Metro II, registration N280KL performing flight KG-970 from Salida,CO to Denver Centennial,CO (USA) with one crew, was on a visual approach to Centennial's runway 17L cleared for the approach and ...

Re: ATC and you
I work at an airport with a runway of significantly more length than what a Cessna will reasonably need where the flight school based at the airport is connected to the taxiway at the end of the runway. Exiting on a reasonable taxiway often will cause a long wait to taxi in because of the long taxi ...

Re: Is this a joke?
I've heard that local flight schools in my area are expecting a pilot shortage, and thus more enrollment in the near future for similar reasons mentioned in the article. I didn't really buy it, but who knows. I guess we'll find out, that's what the schools are apparently prepping for. All flight sc...

Starlink Satellites. As a Tower controller I received a call about something similar from a person on the ground. Reported it as I'm supposed to but thought they were crazy until I saw some tweets on twitter about it later that evening.

Re: Should have asked for the option...
Thanks for the broader explanation ATC_Anstey. Curious why these flight checks come with little notice or as a surprise. Who/what are they checking that precludes advance notice? Sorry for the thread drift. They often do come with notice, but sometimes plans can change that result in something diff...

Re: Should have asked for the option...
Like someone else said I would hazard a guess that having to deal with the flight check put whoever was working in a bad mood and that likely caused them to sound like they were upset at you. In the context of this conversation, what is a "flight check"? Sorry to ask if its obvious and I missed it....

Re: Should have asked for the option...
I don't have enough knowledge of what the normal TZ circuit traffic is like, but had this happened to me at my tower I would not be the least bit upset at you. In fact the circuit is usually busy enough here that I suspect any controller would be more happy that there's 1 less aircraft in the circui...
