Re: Flight Training in Atlantic Canada

Hey, I went to Gander Flight Training and for me I was interested in getting through my PPL and CPL quick, get into the industry and start working. I found the PPL too structured and I wasn't able to go very quickly (3 months, although this was in the winter and the weather was an issue!). Once I ha...

Re: keeping MIFR current

Probably should mention that the 1st day after the first 12 months are past you will be expired unless you were had done the 6-6-6 (covered above). This means that you should probably think about doing 6 hours and 6 approaches a couple of months before the first year is up if you are planning to use...

Re: CPL or IFR?

Just to clarify the above post, the 20 hours sim will not count towards either the dual 35 hour requirement or towards the 200 hour total time for the CPL. Just read my post and that wasn't very clear on my part

Re: CPL or IFR?

If you do the IFR first, 20 hours in the sim and 20 in airplane (you will already have 10 hours as you have a night rating - so 30 to go) then that time will count towards your CPL total time and also the CPL requires 20 hours of instrument time. Whatever you did in the plane for your night dual/ so...

Re: PTR for CPL Training

Like you say, lots of conflicting answers! It probably depends on region, I did my CPL in the Atlantic Region, was told that the PTR should only include the 30 solo and 35 dual, only put that in and it got sent back and I had to sort it out. Now I work in the Prairie region, the Edmonton office seem...

Re: Family Issues: What is the effect on your aviation career?

I think you were asking for family memebers to post here, I'm a pilot with a family so I'll just share my experience so far. I work 8-5 Monday to Friday which is great because my wife pretty much has the same hours. At the moment things work well but we have talked about the day that we will move fo...

Re: Have anything to say about MJ Aviation in Dawson?

I agree the money up front thing is not good, when I started my training the school I was at insisted on lump sums up front (I should note that was not the grande prairie school) and it's pretty difficult to keep track of money when you don't see the bill at the end of the flight. Thankfully when I ...

Re: Have anything to say about MJ Aviation in Dawson?

I actually found Grande Prairie to be a friendly place and enjoyed my time training there, learned a lot. Just wondered what you found to be so bad there ahramin, and have you been there recently? I've been in Grande Prairie since last August (year and a half ago) and have no complaints.

Stuck mike

A while back I was inbound with a student and had reported our intentions on frequency, join downwind etc, then a plane called in on final just landing and never stopped transmitting. While everyone was listening to what the two pilots did over the weekend (mike was stuck for about 13 minutes) we jo...

First time poster, long time reader! I took my CPL ride last Friday, everything written above is great advice, I tried my best to talk to the examiner about other stuff not related to flying just to relax the mood, it helped me a lot and when the time came to do maneuvers i was relaxed and thought e...
