Re: an "impossible" snag on a BE200

Super helpful posts guys, thanks! 2nd eng batt starts are rare for me, and I have not done one on the a/c in question. Gen assist starts lead to a normal start on #1 (less than 700 deg ITT). I have noticed that the #2 ITT on start creeps up higher than your average batt start on other BE20's, but no...

Buy the ANRs and buy good sunglasses too. Once your eyes or your ears go, there's no getting them back.

an "impossible" snag on a BE200

Wondering if anyone can shed light on the following snag. During a batt start on the #2 engine I had the generator come online with the starter engaged. At some point prior to me starting the engine the #2 gen switch was placed into the on position (I'm assuming I hit it getting into the cockpit or ...

Re: RCMP drone bites the dust

the future of drones is actually quite limited. I keep hearing the dreamers quote that the Rmax will replace the good old Canadian crop dusters. Cost vs efficiency is many year away. Drones will not be delivering junk food because no one cares to order junk food as much anymore. Drones will be used...

seriousflyer wrote:Why would the systems be running on BAT only if the one current limiter is "blown" and the opposite side GEN is offline ? Wouldnt the gen that is online run all the systems since all the buses are dual fed ?
i might be wrong, ill dig out my be20 book tomorrow and have a look.

Crash pad in Edmonton/Leduc May 18 - June 15

Anyone looking for a roommate or sublet for a month or know someone who is? My new place isn't available until June 15. I need a spot from May 18 - June 15. Quiet, non-smoker, just me and a few suitcases, and I'll be in YYC for a bit of that time. The closer to the airport the better. Please PM if y...

Re: King air 200 blown current limiters

The 4 main buses are all dual fed, so if you happen to blow a current limiter it will have no noticeable effect because the other side is still getting power. If the opposite gen is offline too then you'll be running on batt only. A good way to blow a current limiter is a cross-gen start instead of ...

Re: Cirrus chutes

To be a qualified, safe IFR pilot, again in my younger but old school mentality, you should be able to hand fly approaches, without GPS if necessary, without getting behind the airplane, without losing situational awareness in your mind -- When did they start giving IFR ratings to pilots who could ...

Re: regulating generators

im actually fairly well versed in electronics, im not asking how a gen works. i wanted to know why they regulate them and was hoping that explaining how a voltage regulator works might help. why the concern over the 30v generator? As long as it is set to provide the proper voltage why does it matter...

Re: regulating generators

Why not simply put a 28.25V gen on instead of regulating a 30V gen down. Going back to the BE20 example, the gens were no different from the lead acid to NiCad batts, both 30V-->28.25V. Maybe an explanation on how voltage regulators works would help me understand it?

Thanks for the responses so far.

Re: regulating generators

So in other words, the gens are capable of a 30V output, but are just set to 28.25V, as opposed to going through some sort of mechanism that provides a lower voltage?

regulating generators

What's the reason that the voltage in generators are regulated to less than their output? I.e. the gens on a BE20 produce 30V but are regulated to 28.25V.

Re: Pressure Pattern Navigation

i just read another great pdf file about a brand new design for the wheel!! seriously though, this seems like overkill for a vfr trip in a bugsmasher... In theory, its easier than traditional navigation. You point your nose at one MH and fly that heading for the entire flight. Simple. Reminds of th...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach

Maybe its just one of those things that people do thinking that they're helping but that really doesn't (or makes it worse sometimes). I flew with a capt when I did medevacs who always insisted I ask terminal if they would like us to speed up or slow down. I hated doing it. Finally one day he asked ...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach

If you called the field and the guy behind you had you visual it would allow them to clear you both for a visual I guess. But if I was the guy behind you I would still probably want to do the appch anyways if the conditions were marginal. I can't see this really being that helpful. I've never called...
