Re: Flair Summer Expansion

While I wish Flair and all the employees there the best of success, I can't help but feel that this announcement of a summer expansion was poorly timed, especially with regard to the East Coast destinations. Unfortunately, most provinces are locking down at the moment due to the third wave, not rel...

Re: Thoughts?

It's likely we'll see more and more new entrants to the aviation market over the next few years. The airlines around today are laden with debt while a new entrant comes in we relatively little debt, or at least less debt to service in the short term, and are able to gain market share as the larger ...

Re: Flair Summer Expansion

Every airline in Canada could be a ULCC if we removed AIF and Navcan fees. Unfortunately our government keeps viewing the industry as a cash cow and round trip AIF’s alone are approaching $100 making it difficult for any airline to be a true ULCC. The other issue in Canada is the lack of secondary ...

Re: Flair Summer Expansion

Yes, there is a way to make the ULCC/LCC/whatever CC nomenclature you want to assign, work. Flair is resolving to make that come to fruition. So far, it doesn't look like they are failing as all the pundits predicted within their first 1 or 2 years of inception in the airline side of the biz. Don't...

Re: Should Canada implement an essential air service?

I think it is. Don't forget that AC was once a Crown corporation. One deal they made when going private was that they would not ever, not under any circumstances, ever cut off access to the communities that depended on their service. They've recently egregiously reneged on that agreement, but that'...

Re: Should Canada implement an essential air service?

I haven't read the aritcle. But we do have an "essential" rail service - VIA trains 1&2, otherwise known as "The Canadian". It's the only affordable way in and out of countless communities across the country, and It's a total shitshow. There's territorial issues because VIA runs on CN owned tracks,...

Should Canada implement an essential air service?

Saw an article a few weeks back about using COVID as an opportunity to reregulate certain unprofitable routes: https://www.thestar.com/opinion/contributors/2020/07/02/air-canada-cuts-are-proof-its-time-for-reregulation.html I wonder why Canada doesn't have an EU/US-style essential air service. It ma...

Re: End of the Line for the Dash-8?

They were going to have to pause production at some point in order to relocate the assembly plant from Downsview... so while it still sucks, the timing on this may almost be helpful in getting things arranged and moved. I'd say as long as there are orders, production will restart. If routes are thi...

Re: Conair adds 11 Dash 8-400's

Anyone know the cost of these conversions? I think typical freighter conversions are somewhere around 25% of the original freighter cost, but not sure if these special conversions are different. I'm doing a bit of digging to try and figure out what's next for the Q400 :) Regardless of the conversion...

Re: End of the Line for the Dash-8?

Apparently there are 186 Q-400's in storage

Even if there's renewed demand post-pandemic, DHC may focus on reactivating these stored aircraft instead of restarting production
