Re: PAL and Air Canada CPA Agreement
How has PAL been doing with their Air Canada CPA arrangement? Are they going to build a hangar in Halifax? I expect they will be eating more of Jazzs cake if they do well. PAL has hangars, an FBO and an extensive foot print in YHZ that was there long before and goes well beyond their CPA. As far as...

Re: Execaire CJ4 YYC job
Lots of inaccurate information posted here. The Chief Pilot did not leave for greener pastures and its not a 24/7 on call deal. There will be two pilots assigned to the plane. 604 flights will be flown either single pilot or two crew depending on schedule and all 704 flights will be two crew only. ...

Re: Open up new bases already !
I’m a little shocked the Porter/Jazz/Encore and others haven’t developed a robust basically live anywhere we fly system yet as a way of Pilot attraction and retention. Maybe it will come and it’s probably too early in Porters expansion that the frequencies on routes don’t support it yet. While Porte...

Re: Corporate operators with more competitive vacation
My last corporate gig, we all started at 4 weeks Likewise for me. Many operations (not all) that are not affiliated with management companies tend to treat their pilots a little more humanely. A management company without strong influence from an aircraft owner will treat you like a disposable, inc...

Re: Background Check Requiring Current Supervisor
Unfortunately most if not all airlines require this. There is no good way around it.
Maybe instead of asking your Chief Pilot or Ops Manager you could ask an Asst. Chief or Lead Safety Pilot. Someone you could trust to keep it to themselves should you not end up leaving.

Re: New Payscale
What is the max amount of days worked at TS? What gets lost a lot in comparing pay scales is the days worked. I believe Porter is 12 days off a month while other’s large airlines do max 16 days worked. So say you’re a reserve pilot in a 31 day month you could end up working up to 15% more at Porter ...

Re: Chance of a YHZ base?
Any updates/rumors regarding this with the reintroduction of Dublin, Edinburgh, and London out of YHZ? There was no YHZ base when all those flights were being operated and there was a strong presence on the East Coast. This time around Westjet has a significantly smaller presence on the East Coast ...

Re: Shutting down most of the airline
Is the reduction in flying being forced by lack of crews?? I have heard AC/Westjet/Porter have all had several Flair pilots (Captains & FO’s) in every single ground school they have been running recently. I’d also assume they don’t have a lineup of Pilots looking to join with Flair’s future outlook,...

It’s a dash, you’re not flying a Navajo at 100 feet between NDB’s in the middle of nowhere.Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 12:38 pm $200 an hour still wouldn’t be enough to fly a POS Dash in east coast weather with low time FOs.
If you can’t handle the weather on the East Coast maybe you shouldn’t be flying at all.

That old fart will show up on their first day, squeeze themselves into the left seat of that cavernous Challenger cockpit and wonder why nothing is happening. You didn’t file the flight plans, arrange handling, do performance, order the catering, book the hotels, book the transportation, and do the...

An old fart who can’t stay away from flying yet taking a job opportunity from a younger individual. That old fart will show up on their first day, squeeze themselv...

Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
My best guess is on housing being a lot more affordable than yyz, more desirable than yul with a better tax rate than the both of them. Younger guys want to stay in that area, they’ll do it for less. That being said, not many younger guys (or gals) with that kind of time that won’t already have the...

Back in the day the golden rule we always used was if you were on an instrument flight put 30 or 40% of the time IFR. At the end of the day nobody can really verify nor will they care to in regards to your IFR time.

As someone who did corporate before the airlines back in the day, if your goal is to make it to the majors and you only have 800 hours, corporate should be the last route you take. Say Air Canada would hire you at 3000 hours, that would take many years to achieve in corporate. Sure you may grow to l...

I left a $200k+ income last year for $58k at AC. I only did it because I'm single, have little to no debt, no kids, no other fiscal or other responsibilities. I live at my base and have a 25 minute commute on a train to the airport. I could manage the financial burden of being a flat payer. I'm als...
