There’s been college grads being hired to jazz after graduating. And then renting a plane to get the required PIC for an ATPL.
So…to a degree I suppose

Re: Poll - September 2023 - Days at work pilot vs. 9-5 worker
TAFB is a better indicator. You can do 4-5 europes in an 85 hour block month. About 45-50 hours TAFB. Let’s be conservative and say you only did 5 Londons at 40 hours from when you check in at planning, to when you walk off the plane = 200 hours at work. I don’t care that there’s a layover in there....

Re: The "Yes" side will be full of regret
Nope didn’t say that. However if the economy tanks and the company’s revenue and outlook weakens, it will be an uphill battle for any negotiating team to make the gains they want. Jazz basically said this on their last quarterly earnings call. They are waiting for a recession to take the pressure o...

Re: The "Yes" side will be full of regret
Air Canada has an insane low labour cost and pilots are worried about locking in pathetic gains? Labor costs are significantly LESS than Ultra Low Cost Carriers Lol...what a joke! Nearly half as much as Delta!!! Man AC pilots need to revolt. Embarrassing Last MOA voted down MEC chair replaced Local...

I haven’t flown with anyone that has regretted voting down that MOA. I think most of us still think of it as a bit insulting.JoeyBarton wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 10:58 am Air Canada pilots said no to an MOA about 9-12 months ago. No second offer was presented at the table. Different circumstances but still worth mentioning.

Re: Denying Overtime
In today’s Globe it was noted AC cancelled, delayed close to 2000 flights over the long weekend. That’s quite significant and probably good indication of things to come as summer progresses. i havent been to work in a few weeks where the board WASNT 80% orange (delayed). I dont think AC cares. Yep ...

I am a bit surprised they didn’t find another place to put the old VP, make up a new role even if just to save face for all he’s done at PD. He’s always been their biggest cheerleader and I recall him being held in high regard by the line pilots.

Re: Denying Overtime
In my opinion, the B1 issue was the final straw. The last few years have been rife with little issues, enforced by management, that step by step made the job harder and much less rewarding. I think, the pilots finally realized they were in a pot of boiling water with the frogs. While AC would like ...

Re: Schedule satisfaction
Instead of publishing pairings and having pilots bid on them, why not bid first and have pairings generated based off of your bid? Most of Air Canada’s pilots satisfaction travails could be solved if pilots themselves were involved in the pairing generation process. Air Canada is the first airline ...

Re: Schedule satisfaction
Socialized bidding affords junior pilots a better schedule early in their career. But …. Then they don’t get that jammy flying when they are senior. I see both sides, but I find it interesting this is still seen as more preferable. When the kids are young, the days matter. When you're an old fart, ...

… is beginning to cause delays and cancellations the past few days at big red. It would appear that angering pilots by removing perks and releasing a poorly spliced YouTube video by the CEO is not the way to entice said pilots to work on their days off. Can you post the link to the video? P.S. grea...

Re: Air Canada Pilots Pull Out
Can the pilots do some work to rule stuff this summer to put pressure on the company? I remember reading here that union reps were doing OT? Insane. Do they still do that during negotiations? A lot of the self-serving, old guard, company yes-men “union reps” have finally stepped down. Looking at yo...

1:15 in the crew room sharp. Start with a Phone call to dispatch for updates. Every NOTAM gets checked. Draft & drop only. No calls to STOC, let them figure it out while we’re running engines and APUs. We can have fun with this.

The US is not a comparable. Get over it already. 10x the population, entirely different travel market, entirely different funding model as far as transportation, taxes, etc go, and massively financed operations that are hugely reliant on ancillary (card / ff) spend. Meanwhile, you're asking for a m...

This has nothing to do with fatigue regulations. It is about ensuring a comfortable level of experience for the expected flight. Sometimes (for example navigating lines of thunderstorms around the equator) I would prefer myself in the flight deck at certain times, and those times may not coincide n...

Re: Are Air Canada pilots the lowest paid in the world?
Naturally to fix the pay problem at Air Canada and improve its pay, FOUR LOOONNNG years of flat pay have to disappear! That's where it starts! At the very least, that will raise the scale by four years. Everyone seems to focus so much on US pay, but they forget that the starting pay there is around...
