Re: Nav Canada Service Charges

My 172 has been less than 100$/yr since i bought it 6 years ago. $460 for a 180 seems very high to me. Side note: I asked Nav Can management years ago if they could waive my yearly fee for my plane. I believe the response was something like "absolutely not" My wife and i have been controllers for 10...

Re: Any Updates on Fall 2014 Courses?

Fall IFR course for Edmonton is slated for YEG and YYC terminals. Big jump for most, as in the past they have just ran courses through the easier specialties. If you are on the fall course spend your summer enhancing your aircraft knowledge. Terminal is a different ball game, so any early prep will ...

Re: CYYC runway walk

Why? You wouldn't be considering punitive actions against a pilot or operator based on anonymous postings on an aviation forum would you? Not cool. Feel free to imply whatever you wish. If people want to come on here and complain about the level of service they are getting, then feel free. We are a...

On behalf of Calgary Terminal, can anyone tell us who "co-joe" flies for and what equipment. DM any of us if you need.

BW tower will send you north, most likely up lochend road at 5500. Then they will say "Contact Terminal on 128.7". You call us, and we tell you how high you can go and your routing. It couldnt be more simple. Expect to go about 10 miles north of Airdrie.

Re: Flow delays YYC

The typical 1 post wonder starts the thread, and then is never heard from again. Classic. Flow rate is all based on runway combinations and wx. VMC arriving 35/29 and departing on either 35 or 29 = 36 rate VMC arriving 35/29 and departing both 35 and 29 = 32 rate Same rates above used for 17/11 vmc ...

Re: Questions for CYYC Terminal? Ask here

In the Terminal there is enough OT to drown yourself. Depends how much you want to work i guess.. There is enough for everyone to Max out plus many, many shifts that go unfilled. As for the Rwy 26 thing.. A few weeks ago we received an ops letter in the terminal stating that rwy 26 wasnt to be used ...

Questions for CYYC Terminal? Ask here

Calgary Terminal is undergoing a major airspace change in the upcoming weeks as we prepare for Rwy 35R in June 2014. The whole southern portion of the Edmonton FIR is changing to accomdate new arrival and departure routings into CYYC as well. Pilots in the area will notice many changes starting Dec ...

Just tell the tower or terminal that you are breaking in a new engine and you need to stay xx miles from the airport. We deal with it quite a bit. Never an issue on our side.

Re: descent question for the ATC guys

What's your name and licence number? There are 30 days worth of strips, tapes, and radar recordings from your building that I bet Transport (and Nav Canada) would be very interested to examine for the times when you've been sitting in the position & breaking the law. I think this is probably the la...

Well said CYEG66. This isnt a Nav Canada issue ladies and gentlemen. This has to do with the Calgary Airport Authority. Call them if your pissed off about delays. The parallel was required 10 years ago. They have been dragging their ass on this issue for years. Using a RWY 34/28 VFR wx cond mode we ...

Re: Aircraft being diverted to Springbank

Last few days RVR basically 1200-3000 range. Braking action Fair/Poor. We can only run single runway and we are 6-7 miles in trail. Acceptance rate is 24 arrivals an hour. Peak times the demand was calling for 30-40 in a one hour slot, so thats why the ground stop was in. Sorry folks, not much anyon...

Re: YYC Rant.

Ill throw my 2 cents in the ring too. TC threw a little gem at us a few months ago too. If there is any cloud below 4000 then we have to run an IFR CRDA mode for spacing at the intersection. So a great VFR day with cloud FEW 2500 and guess what, we have to run an IFR mode. This takes our rate from 3...

I flew cyxd to cyxs last summer in my cessna 172. Stopped in McBride for fuel. Flew at 8500 from Hinton to McBride. Awesome scenery. Turbulence was light that day, the only really choppy air was just east of Moose Lake and lasted til we turned the corner south after Moose Lake. Nice wide open valley...

I'm not going to get a pissing match as everyone is entitled to their own opinion on here, but to suggest that we delay planes for the hell of it is totally ridiculous, and every controller will agree with me on that. All traffic was rerouted around the closed airspace thru to YVR ACC airspace which usually resulted in a few hundred miles of diversion. Some freighters filed below FL290 to the low sectors.

Edmonton North High specialty routinely closed airspace 2 years ago due to staff shortages. Most often it was the klondike sector that stretches from the Alaska border east over the Yukon.
