Re: AME Shortage.
Capitalism baby. People aren't willing to move to the middle of nowhere 8 months of the year (if not all year) for wages half that of their other mechanic counterparts. I'd wager there is hardly a single company in this industry paying AME's what they're worth right now. Especially after Covid. Tha...

Requires a work visa, I don’t know of any other loopholes but working in a foreign country regardless of occupation requires a work visa. You can get a one off letter of invite from the customer and homeland security will issue a temporary work visa on crossing if it’s a one time thing. But if it’s...

Re: Companies that do not require Training bonds
Everywhere I look there’s bond requirements for both ames and pilots. I don’t see any jobs out there where their policies allow for un bonded training… My last endorsement was two years ago. I was the only guy on course and no bond lol That happened to me on my first endorsement. The instructor sai...

Re: Future AME Discouraged
Time before when I renewed my M1,2 they never asked for any paper to prove I was working in the industry. Just pay and here you go. Recently as of 6 months ago I thought to renew and my licence and found was expired by over a year. Due to Covid TC was expediting the renewals and I paid my fee and r...

Re: Corporate / Management Companies to work for as an AME M1M2
Not to sure about management companies but I've known a few guys who had good corporate gigs. Shaw in YYC is a good place with new machines. Not sure about now but in YEG Dr. Allards company Allercom had a 3 hole Dessault Falcon and the Engineer had a good job. Met a Jimmy Pattison Engineer who was...

Re: Hours of Averaging
My first job was a straight day rate and they worked me 16 hours a day. Small float operator and slept in the hangar. I burnt out in under a year and moved onto a larger shop that did hours of averaging, but paid out overtime every two months iirc. I always opted for time off near the end, too much ...

Re: Corporate / Management Companies to work for as an AME M1M2
Nobody answers I don’t think there’s any ames on here that work at these places. They’re always hiring that’s all I know, that’s either a very good thing or very bad thing. From what I’m hearing corporate is slowing down and on shaky legs from this new luxury tax and lack of new aircraxt

Why is it management companies (especially in yyz) are always hiring ames? Do they do this just to keep their options open or are these actual positions that keep needing filling? It’s beginning to The used bizjet market is dealing with inflation still with the possibility of a price collapse. Some guys are holding back on upgrading or buying used. Not helping the situation, manufacturers can't keep up with the demand, where the value currently is as msrp's haven't risen. Bu...

Old aircraft that is too large a fleet to retire… maybe some modern engines could be retrofitted in for reliability?

Re: Working on a C registered aircraft in the states
Hi all, I am looking for some information on whether we can go down to the states to fix one of our own aircraft. I have heard that we are not really supposed to go down there to fix our aircraft as you would be taking a job away from an American and this has something to do with the bi-lateral agr...

Ok, all of you that say the current pay is crap (even though millwrights and bus drivers don't actually make way more), why not enlighten me/us as to what an appropriate annual salary would be? You aren’t an AME, definitely either some private owner with interest in keeping maintenance down or some...

Re: The Career of an AME
$42/hr is almost 30% higher than the Canadian average hourly rate - Canadian average hourly earnings 2020 $42/hr x 2000 hr/yr is roughly $84K a year. Is everyone supposed to make over $100k a year? Or maybe $150K? And how would Canada/the world work if they did? What's your point? 2 years of colleg...

This thread is enough to make a grown man cry. Canadas industry is horrible to it’s employees, I honestly think I’m done too. The pandemic really gave my head some time to recuperate and evaluate where I am at in life, and I don’t see any future working as an AME here.. people are leaving not only t...

Re: Corporate jets are a climate nightmare
This is my favourite one to date lol https://toronto.citynews.ca/2022/07/27/drake-14-minute-flight-toronto-hamilton-private-jet/ It is funny that HE thought the justification for not flying on it, or no one actually uses the jet on that leg would go over well with the public. I get it, no one I kno...
