Re: WAWCON at PAL Aerospace

I must point out that some companies use a points system to establish where you sit in the pay scale. By adding up points based on total time, time on type, years of service, etc, you slot in at your appropriate 'pay step.' With this system it's quite easy to slot in to the top half of the pay scale...

Re: Community/Residential Air Parks

Hudson Island in the Gulf Islands shares a strip from end to end right down the middle of the island. Last I talked to someone there was over 10 years ago and it didn't seem like many residents used the strip though.

Re: Commuting from Sunshine Coast/Bowen Island/ Squamish to YVR

There’s tons who commute from the Island.

I used to fly a guy regularly from Sechelt to YVR on the Beaver. Seemed to work great for him, but of course you do need more time for the ferry option just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Re: How long for hands on throttle after takeoff

All SOPs for an engine failure that I’ve seen have “max power” as the first step. In this case that step should have solved their problem rather quickly

Re: Hire me forum

For someone like me who has a summer gig locked in every year and is just looking for contract or part time work I feel it could be a bit more useful. However I can understand how many hiring managers would have a stigma against hiring people from there. I did get an offer from a numbered email addr...

Re: Looking into Rotational positions for FO

Both First Air and Canadian North have been hiring some 250 hr pilots to the right seat of the ATR and Dash-8. Obviously some risk of a layoff with both companies though given the merger is going ahead.

Re: Sunglasses recommendations...?

I wear Serengeti Velocity Titanium Drivers Gradient. http://www.thresholdaviation.com/products/Velocity-Titanium-Espresso-Frame-Drivers-Gradient-Lens.html I like the wide lense and the Drivers Gradient has less tint on the lower part of the lense making it easier to see things inside the plane. Not...

We have a portable unit for the Kingair. Suction mount it to the side window when in the US and it pairs to foreflight on the ipads. Amazing wealth of info.

Dave Olesen and family has made it work very well. He's got a couple fascinating books about his life out at Hoarfrost River.

Edit: here's his blog, right up to date

Re: Demand for float drivers 2017?

There's always more than 1 way to get into the float world. I've got about 1500 floats and have always had full time permanent positons. 9 hrs on the Super cub was my rating, and neverflown anything commercially smaller than a Beaver. Now of course the catch is instead of many seasons out east, I ch...

This thing lasted 7 years up north for me. Written-off from a large dent in year 6, I kept it going for another year, even adding in the duct-taped over window and missing piece of bumper. Became a true beater car!

$25 k to fly the Mars

It's good to see Coulson isn't giving up on these things yet, I guess why not try to make a few bucks any way you can. Can't imagine there's too many pilots with an extra $25,000 US lying around though.
