Re: East Coast friendly Jet Jobs
definitely echo the other good points brought up - real estate doesn't necessitate overall lower cost of living - the economy and healthcare in St. John's is atrocious. Cargojet may be an option if you still are inclined to make the move. They have daily flights to HQ in YHM via YQM 5 days a week wi...

Flight Crew Application Keeps Bouncing Back
I've had this issue a few times now - I complete the online application for non-ac express pilot position, go through the whole process fill out each section on each page, verify everything is complete and receive the successful "your application has been successfully submitted" page at the very end...

Do pairings need to start/end at YYZ or are you able to start/end pairings in the city you live in if its a hub (in my case, YYC)

Re: Any planned hiring this year?
Does WJ even hire DEC? Say if a CA from AC decided he wanted to switch teams, could he attempt for a DEC? Or is his only option to apply for an FO slot?

Re: WB FO Hire?
Positions and upgrades at airlines in Canada are dictated by seniority only. You can show up from overseas or a different airline in Canada with years of WB experience and if narrow body FO is all that's available, thats what you'll get. 787 is a highly desired position at WJ, therefore it will be ...

WB FO Hire?
Does/Has WJ ever hired FO's directly onto the 78? I'm thinking more so if someone already had widebody jet time or even already type rated on the Dreamliner? With current upgrade times being lengthy (I think min 10 years on the narrow body) - how long would it take for a FO on a 73 to bid for a wide...

Re: Having issues with Medical?
I'm a board member for the College of Professional Pilots of Canada - I too have dealt with the absurd bureaucracy and red tape of having my medical primarily invalidated, then restricted. In my case it was a minor even that happened when travelling overseas on vacation. TC CAM took 8 months to deci...

Re: Flair Interview Process
Great write-up, thank you for taking the time. How long of a heads-up did you get between the first email inviting you to the selection process and the interview date? Just wondering how fast things might happen in case one is travelling for example and if there might be some flexibility with inter...

Re: Skydive recommends
This is likely going off topic, but I'm very curious: what happens in case of a chute failure once you're back on the ground? Do you have to get the chute inspected, do you have to throw it out, do you just go up and try again? Does it need to be reported to anyone? Thread drift is common  Th...

Re: Likelihood of Hiring without 705 Time?
In your shoes I would strongly consider Canadian North. Gives a great home life and YYC. Keeps doors open at Air Canada and Westjet and I know lots of people happy there. Maybe not the most diverse flying but you can’t have it all. Definitely avoid Jazz. Flow to AC was grossly ignored and there’s v...

Re: Likelihood of Hiring without 705 Time?
We have hired some in the past few years without 705 time. King Air Captains etc. 705 time is much more common as mentioned above. It will give you another box to tick off on the resume. A big question is are you planning on staying in YYC? At AC you will be commuting for your career if YYC is home...

Re: Skydive recommends
My recommendation (as a Skydiving Instructor with 1000's of jumps) for your first one, and potentially you're only one, go to a place that's going to offer a combination of beautiful scenery, and a larger aircraft. A Caravan or Twin Otter/King Air are going to offer you a jump from a higher altitude...

Re: Likelihood of Hiring without 705 Time?
With how everything is slowing down for hiring lately, it seems like we're past the shortage of Pilots that was rampant for the last few years. In the last year, Big Red as well as WestJet have increased their hiring minimums from 1500 to 2000 TT which was rather unfortunate timing for me because i...

Re: Likelihood of Hiring without 705 Time?
Something to bear in mind is if you decide to go to Encore, you won’t get to WJ. Jazz is the place to go if you want to get on at WJ. Encore is the best path to AC. No exactly, and ideally I want to end up at AC hence wanting to avoid Jazz - however in the interest of keeping my options open and ta...

Re: Flair Interview Process
I did the in person interview and testing for Flair back in November. I ended up getting PFO'd but never really set myself up for success. They only had 2 dates available for the assessments, and I was flying on the first day so took the red eye to YYZ from YYC after a duty day (Flair provided the f...
