Re: I Always Wondered About the Arrow Manual Gear Extension

The landing gear will freefall through a mechanically linked shuttle valve know as the "hoof valve". No electrics required for it to operate. The auto extend system was abolished by Piper after a dead stick landing when the gear kicked out and the airplane didn't make the airfield...they will not su...

Re: Flight Control Problem Could be the Autopilot

In the aircraft I fly, when you put a certain control force against the autopilot commands, the autopilot will automatically disengage that axis as it generally means that you purposely want to do something else than what the autopilot is commanding. This design should be incorporated in every auto...

Wow, top wage is roughly what I earned in 2008. And that was working on things much smaller than Boeings, living in a city far more affordable than Montreal. What kind of talent are you trying to attract?

NeverBlue, way to look like an ass. It's reassuring to see not only your knowledge, but also your sanity become questionable in a public forum. Kind of a shame you claim to be involved in an industry driven by safety, mental illness is no joking matter. Good employers have employee assistance progra...

Have had one of these in my toolbox for years, and check its accuracy every time I do a dynamic balance with a calibrated Chadwick Helmuth balancer. Have yet to see more than a 5 rpm difference from the calibrated optical pickup on the CH.

Someone PLEASE hire this kid! Hasn't worked a day in aviation and already has the industry by the twig and berries! Sounds like about 80% of modern apprentices, all piss and vinegar with no skills or knowledge to back themselves up. Lead the way big shooter, we're all dying for you to show us what w...

For those students who left aviation temporary, don't forget your goal, WE WILL COME BACK. Sweet...let's take our shirts off and bump chests! Airplanes are expensive. If you spend too much maintaining/fuelling/flying them, you get outbid on a contract every time, the industry is a race to the botto...

Re: Impact drivers (dewalt and the likes)

Strega, I don't refer to myself as an "engineer", I refer to my profession as being an AME. For those unsure of what that is, I explain it to them. I have no shame in what I do for a living, I made a conscious decision to do it. People like you, that devalue what AMEs do every day lose respect withi...

Why, oh why does anyone help Strega when it's painfully obvious his AME hating, holier than thou self is trolling a forum? Strega, head to Canadian Tire, buy your jobber impact, destroy your airplane so you can come back and complain about people wanting you to spend money for their knowledge and ex...

Re: Grease

If the spec called for is mil-g-81322, I would use mobil grease 28, aeroshell 22 does not seem to react well with moisture and cold temps, it tends to dry up and get waxy once met with either cold or moisture. Or Mobil shc100 for wheel bearings, that stuff is awesome, but I am unsure what mil spec i...

jay, I don't know everything and will be the first to admit that, it is a desirable trait in aviation. What I do know is I am an investor, I lend my money to help other people build business for the mutual gain of both parties. Re: Ice Pilots Back

Anyone else notice the newbie last season who was a 'hotshot' pilot from bc, is now a mechanic there? Poor guy, probably got better pay, nicer hours, and more respect. Hotshot pilots unfortunately do not make good AMEs, their egos leave them in the dust. Hotshot AMEs turned pilots on the other hand...

I'll just say what everyone else is thinking, and why you as a prospective entrepreneur have already failed. You want to cater to a market that you don't know exists. Pound some pavement, knock on some doors, find a market that suits your locale. You want to do JT15 components, great.....as long as ...

Study, and learn it for yourself. The industry is already saturated with apprentices that aren't interested. Or find a new career if you think the easy way is how to do this.

The problem with your question is that it is too broad. A 200 hour Navajo F/O will make substantially less than a senior airline captain, and a freshly printed AME license will earn far less that the senior wrenches. The problem with aviation that sends everyone into a tailspin are the horrendously ...

Re: BD5 Down in Provost Alberta, Pilot Deceased

I remember about 10 years ago in YXE, they were trying to get that BD5 flying, endless problems with the Honda engine in it. After about a week of trials, they took the wings off, tossed in the back of a 3/4 ton and off it went. I always wondered what happened to the plane, and the gentleman who met...

I have learned to dismiss photofly's posts as another know-nothing-know-it-all. The problem isn't the lack of jobs, the problem is lack of QUALIFIED people to fill them. Sure you can pay for a type course, but it gives you no real world experience and makes you no more valuable, it just saves an employer money. Prospective employers will see this, as will your coworkers. As a h...

Show of hands....how many pilots or their spouses shop at WalMart? Same business model, different industry. The public likes cheap, the more there are to work for cheap to provide cheap, the more cheap the public gets. Consumer wins every time.
