Re: Fatigue Research
For the CARS 705 opperators out there what is your min time at the hotel? What is your min rest period? Our company (705) ops state 10 hours free from duty. This essentialy gives us 11 hours wheels down to wheels up. I find this adequate however we can shorten this by 45 min. if we choose. There ha...

Re: Sqwak Ident
Wow, if this gets you distracted enough to cause problems you really should go back to flight school and re-learn how to fly, but don't use the same instructor. You know Lurch, this is exactly why I don't post very often, the capacity for ignorance in some is amazing. I said that right after take o...

Re: Sqwak Ident
What I don't get is why we are asked to squawk just after we call airborne? Not only would you think it is fairly obvious who we are and where we are but it is a fairly inconvenient time to be looking for the ident button. We have several aircraft the same type but none the same so sometimes you act...

The Shepherd
It looks like the CBC reading of Frederick Forsyth's "The Shepherd", was yesterday. I'm not sure but that's the way it looked to me so I went online to find a download and was only able to come up with one; http://www.fearyoucanhear.com/fearyoucanhearlist.php?q=s&sm=ff&s=The+Shepherd&x=12&y=12 This ...

Sqawk ? in YYQ
Most of the time we are given clearance only with no squawk code which makes sense in non radar environment. Why is it that somtimes we are given a squawk code when departing YYQ?

Personally I had fantasies about school teachers when I was in high school and I'll admit the white socks and plaid skirts may be on my fantasy list now. But that's not what this is about. People in positions of authority, particularily adults over children, have to be held to a strict moral and eth...

It's pretty sad really, as I understand it the approach ban will only be in effect when there is reported vis or an RVR. Therefore in the crappiest places with an NDB only and circling approach, poor runway lighting (lucky to have papi or vasi) and "unofficial" or no weather reporting you can shoot ...

One I"ve heard of though never witnessed is the Pitot Suction test. The victim is asked to assist with a test of the pitot system. The instigator goes into the cockpit and has the new guy put his lips on the pitot tube and blow until told otherwise. About that time the master goes on and the pitot h...

It was missing for only a few hours when we got called to look for the guy... Perhaps a review of how and why to file flight plans in the ADIZ as well as a developed plan to figure out how to advise termination of plans is in order for new-comers to our part of the world. JC I would be interested i...
