Re: Etihad to hire up to 600 pilots in the next three years

Within EY and some other gulf carriers fleet assignment can be like working for a different airline. From what I know of EY, EK and QR: The EY 320 job is widely known to be brutal. Short haul fleet working wide body hours. EK 380 FO is about the best F/O job available, but time to command is a guess...

Very interesting reading fellas! I think we're all learning from this discussion.

But Gino - reading your thoughts and assertions on ME airlines, how on earth is your favorite airline QR ??!! The most secretive, privately run, dictator lead airline labour camp of them all! Ironic?

Re: QATAR AIRWAYS PILOT ROAD SHOW - YYZ

Qatar need to pay up and compensate. It's no picnic. Single guys can manage things easier - maybe. At least the well behaved ones…. Financial benefits for sure, but at what cost?? With wives and kids in the mix. Huge sacrifice. Best leave your lululemon gear behind  And make sure you don't ge...

Rouge? A very odd and unclear name. I don't get it. Is that the best they could come up with?

Kudos to WJ which has certainly worked out very well for it's people; and it's also great to see another long term option of than A/C, but your comparison of a WJ F/O to an A/C EMB Capt?? I don't know the numbers, but sorry, but that's seems completely unbelievable. An EMB Capt must make well into 6...

Re: PILOT JOB ROAD SHOW FOR QATAR AIRWAYS

It is an opportunity and worth looking into, but keep in mind Qatar is not the best choice for the ME. I''m sure Obbie''s #1 choice was Emirates, but you do what you have to do. Qatar is a very rich country but lifestyle and morale is not the best and it's certainly a sacrifice. One of the largest t...

What a PR disaster. The Canadian public will now be watching with interest to see if this arrogant turkey ( pun intended ) with continue to fly past 60. What a poor choice to represent this movement to fly past 60; he is reason enough to vote this down. I think it's best for him to move to Turkey af...

39 years of service now with the benefit from all those that retired before him. Tremendous arrogance and entitlement this fellow profiled in the globe. Move on and enjoy turkey, with your full pension and salary. What a toolbag.

Re: Career change advice needed

My 2 cents... I would agree with most and pay off your flying hours and continue working to have your CPL with no debt if possible. Send out your CV and work hard at finding an entry level flying job. I would say you're at a big advantage with your previous work experience, age and education. I'm su...

Re: Emirates Toronto Road Show April 6th

I agree with most of what you say complex but the reality is that most would give their right nut and maybe part of the left to be in your shoes. The industry is a disaster and EK, despite all the talk is a very reasonable port in a very big storm. True, I have heard as well that only a few SSV pilo...

Complex, I agree with many of your assertions and the cold hard facts of Dubai and the UAE, but don't you see this going a bit too far? Why do you see blocking your own airline towards expansion? Maybe your looking towards the exit, perhaps a good idea...The day you start to loath and go to these le...

Fatigue is a big problem, especially on the Airbus, Boeing rosters from what I've seen are very reasonable. Quite simply, the crew on the 340 incident did not follow the SOP's and paid the price; nearly a catastrophic one. Obbie, sorry you aren't able to make it over but it sounds like a classic abo...

I have to say a friend who left WJ for various reasons years ago, tells one of many stories. One was of a flight with a young WJ captain taxing about 40kts. These days cost cutting is the name of the game and EK is taking advantage, but the package for a senior captain is quite a bit more than 14k all in... 11k USD monthly salary, 1-2k in extra flying hours, free housing worth roughly 3k/month, education for up to three kids at 10k/year each, medical, d...

Alpha is absolutely right, it might not be what people want to hear or believe but it's the truth. Legacy companies are in the middle of major adjustments. Re: Hypothetical Question about AC - CCAA again or Liquidate

Isn't it much like the auto industry, it's just a matter of time before some type of major restructuring into union contracts. I would hope ACPA could negotiate some type of smart deal making before they impose serious pay and pension cuts. Better to lose a few trees than the whole forrest....
