Re: CBC The National: Report on SMS this Wednesday
Well, I'm always willing to make a contribution which will enhance the general understanding of various systems in Canadian aviation. Safety Management Systems is a good tool inside an organization with at least some basic moral sense of right and wrong. Otherwise, it is as useless in changing the c...

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
Huuumm ... could be I suppose, or its just a programming error. Lots of stations are run by computer automation systems in either a full auto mode, or in "live assist." The Traffic Dept does the scheduling, and often will make an error, which then becomes a template for future shows, but with differ...

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
Although it may be a gross disappointment to those looking for underlying conspiracy theories involving mind control by capitalist interests, the "Paid Announcement" slide was most likely a simple production error.....just pushing the wrong button. It is normally run before airing any of the "Infome...

Re: Individual Type Rating
If you have the aircraft Type Rating endorsed on your licence, it is there for life. IE .... B737, MU2, DHC8, etc. There is no time limit except to meet the other currency requirements and things like an IFR expiry date, night currency, passenger carrying currency, PPC or PCC for commercial operatio...

Re: CBC The National: Report on SMS this Wednesday
Meatservo .... you've captured the essence of the SMS role in a PVI, but left out the requirement of the CAP content which requires the description of the personal emotional devastation caused by the realization that the company had fallen below the record keeping requirements. Further, the extensiv...

Don Cherry - A Great Canadian Pecked By A Thousand Sparrows
E WARMINGTON | QMI AGENCY TORONTO -- I was hoping to be able to report today how those Royal Military College faculty members, who don't agree with a French teacher's protest of Don Cherry's doctorate, had rallied to say she does not speak for them. It did not happen Monday. Same goes for a petition...

KAG:
When I first went to YXY, I lived in the apartments behind the Airport Chalet for about 10 months, and because it was so close, used to eat at the Chalet regularly.
It was the haunt for all aviation folks after work time ended. The lunch specials were always popular too.

40 years and still not ready to retire ? How many ex-wives are you paying for ? :D Never worked in YXY but have stayed many times and I would have to agree that for a northernish town it is like a little Vantopia north but with nicer summers, winters and no traffic. Axial ... I'm one of the very, v...

Just a comment to anyone contemplating applying for an F/O position in Whitehorse, let me tell you that the almost 3 years I spent flying from Whitehorse in my late 20's were by far among the best in my 40 years of aviation, and I encourage people to apply. Wonderful area, friendly people, and stunn...

Re: Twin Bonanza - anyone flown one?
They had one on lease when I worked for Victoria Flying Services almost a hundred years ago. Huge interior that looked like it came from a 1938 Cadillac, and that looked kind of cool back in the day. Some dingle balls, and fuzzy dice would finish off the look. Hauled a good sized load .... they used...

That most likely is the SOP for a Mayday or a Pan .... no separate request for CFR required, you get "full service." The mechanical issue may be what is at the heart of this ... I don't profess to know.

Re: NT Air King Air Accident - Pilot Discussion Thread
The whole idea behind "I won't declare an emergency because of all the paperwork, and this will likely work out OK" is bogus. I've called the trucks out and there as zero paperwork, just an explanation on ground when it was all over, and that was the end of it. That explanation to the controller see...

Re: NT Air King Air Accident - Pilot Discussion Thread
Sorry BPF, but you've erred ... CAR 704 doesn't force operation of SFAR 41 aircraft. FAR 23 is quite acceptable ... for example, a Beech 200. One of my complaints with the division of 703 and 704 ops for a long time was that someone could buy 2 King Airs, one after the other down the production line...

Re: Questions of ownership for someone well versed in TC reg
This is being made way more complicated than it is. If it is not a turbine powered pressurized aircraft, it doesn't require any form of operating certificate. If it is, then contact the local Commercial and Business Aircraft section of Transport Canada to enquire about CAR 604 (Corporate) operations...
