2 at YFC. They are flying pretty much non stop, mostly round robins in the FIR but some to YQB and back as well.

Re: YEG Applications process

There’s a recent article NAV Can released on how they need to hire more woman and minorities. So if you are neither good luck. After a year of being a successful candidate in the pool I’ve decided to pull my position. They’re just another bullshit politically correct employer. @#$! em. The overwhel...

Re: Air Canada Rouge EGPWS warning at Huatulco

I don't think this could happen in Canada, as ATC is prohibited from issuing clearances below the minimum IFR altitude unless being radar vectored. http://www.navcanada.ca/EN/products-and-services/Documents/AIP/Current/part_5_aic/5aic_eng_2017_19.pdf#top That's not what your attachment says at all....

The airspace is controlled. No radar coverage below about 8000'.

Re: YOU'RE CLEARED TO HOLD...

I asked ATC one time what constitutes protected airspace. It's miles around your holding point. They don't care as long as you're doing something that approximates a hold and stays within 5+ miles of where you say you are going to hold. The answer you got is a bit misleading. In a radar environment...

Re: Why is the max speed for a hold faster when climbing?

Maybe more to do with the airspace to be protected for the hold. Once established in the hold the fix end reduction area can be dropped making the size of the protected area smaller. I am assuming that the initial template for the hold covers the higher speeds given.

It appears my own googling skills are somewhat lacking, though to include the value of long term incentives and his pension plan as annual income is a stretch.

Re: how long did it take for your medical approval?

Just wondering how long it can take for the initial fss medical to be approved? I did my medical & other appointments about 7 weeks ago. Haven't heard anything from Navcanada yet. I'm probably going to contact them this week to make sure there's no issues, but just wondering if that's normal? Seems...

Re: Ontario To NFLD

Picked up a spot tracker today. Not much radar out that way, and family will be able to keep an eye on me too. As long as you cross the NB border at about 5500, you will be in radar coverage. From CYFC on wards to CYYG or CYHZ 3500 will work easily. From CYYG or CYHZ to CYQY you need to be at about...

Re: Category 1 with past marijuana use?

Maybe things have changed but when I was in the flying business the US customs and immigration would not allow a known marijuana user into the USA. Does anyone know if this is still true? Statistically, the majority of adult Canadians are known marijuana users. Thousands of marijuana users are allo...

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

Effective 0000z May 20th 2017, ATC clearances shall not include the phrase VIA SID/STAR. The term VIA may be used in the routing segment of an IFR clearance. ATC will also not issue a climb altitude on an initial IFR departure clearance. Interesting that you got this email. I just got one saying th...

Re: When is it appropriate for Pilot to call shift Supervisor?

If you were able to slow down enough that it wasn't an issue, then why call at all? If it bugged you so much or was a safety concern, you're responsible for the go around? Were you a Light behind a heavy? How bad was the breach? If you forgot to call entering the Zone in an MF, would you want the F...

The recent IFR course in Moncton had someone fail the ITA test and rewrite in week 2 and they managed to get another student in to replace him.

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

On the positive side We have already found some controllers that are circumnavigating the phraseology by clearing Aircraft direct to a fix on the star thereby alleviating the nausea attached with the "cleared via star" terminology. Though I may clear an aircraft to any point on the STAR ("proceed d...

Re: New Phraseology for SIDs and STARs: Beginning April 27, 2017

Where I work there are no charted speed or altitude restrictions above 5000 on STARS or transitions. We only clear A/C to 10000. High level only clears them to FL290. The ICAO document that is the cause of this states that "descend via STAR" indicates to the pilot they must comply with all charted s...

No I meant 100, Jazz may not operate them but SKV does.

I also overlooked the fact that depending on the day, JAZZ does have a Q400 make the flight.
