Re: What are stupid things that pilots do that bug you?

I am not ATC but every now and then I hear something that pisses me off for the ATC types! Down in the states heard a Delta plane check on... No reply for about 5 seconds then asked for who ever checked out to say again. The pilot replied "Delta XXX checking on at 340... let me guess you were on the...

I am sure you've been talking to Adam. He's really good dealing with prospective students. If you tell him you'd need a part time job he may be able to send you the right way.

Re: Curious on part time jobs around Steinbach, MB area

It has been about 4 years since I was last in Steinbach. Not sure how hard the jobs are to get but there are a few restaurants in town and a Safeway. Some also have worked as dispatchers/ramp attendants for Harv's too.

Re: WestJet Pilots and Flight Attendants Race to Unionize

Wrong on all accounts. I don't work for WestJet, never did and I don't work for anyone else for that matter. Been retired several years now, I just still have an active iinterest in the industry. It's disheartening to hear a bunch of self entitled whiners moaning about how mean big bad WestJet is b...

YYC 35R/17L Question

About a week ago we were departing around 830 AM and on the ATIS it mentioned 35R was not being used due to noise abatement, where our charts indicated I believe it was 7AM when noise is no longer an issue. Did we truly spend that kind of money to have a runway that some NIMBY types are making usele...

Re: YYZ ILS glide slope unserviceable

Another question I've had is a few of the airports in Canada (YUL and YYC come to mind) we can given a take off clearance with visual reference to the traffic ahead. This allows us to start rolling as soon as the aircraft ahead leaves the ground which is especially useful if landing and departing an...

Re: YYZ ILS glide slope unserviceable

Another issue is that not all types can do RNAV. In the fleet of airplanes I fly, more than half of them are not GPS equipped. When we do an RNAV approach it is a bit of a process and more work than a NPA or a visual (like we did yesterday to 24L). Most guys I fly with would prefer and NDB or LOC to...

Re: RJP Refund

From my days before getting on with AC I think I had to call for a refund, but it stays in the system indefinitely.. So call early on a spring day when the line isn't too busy. With WS I think you had to call within a day or two or you lost your money.

Re: Encore - Not Worth It

AC will not have 300 retirements this year. The age 60 situation is to blame for that. Yes we have a significantly older pilot base than WS and we will benefit from that someday (baring anything special, 2017 is when the group will start to hit 65 and start to retire). Life at AC can be decent but y...

Re: Where to RON in Haneda

No they pick up from both T1 and T2. You may have to take the shuttle from the international terminal if you arrive there. I arrived in AC. No questions asked. The shuttle has a weird time table, so just check it out. I think the idea is its scheduled based on flight times as it worked out for us.

Don't want to drift too far off topic, but I will say that as a pilot working for WS's biggest competitor, I want WS's pilots to get the best damned package they can get. Two reasons, one as pilots we are all the same, like hockey players that put on different uniforms but are NHL players, we are ai...

Congrats to those getting in now. The future is bright for AC with expansion plans and retirements to start in another few years. For those just getting on property now and in the bear future I am of the belief that by the end of the first four years there should be exciting room to move up.

I think he is talking about new hire pay which has in fact increased with the 75 hour gaurentee. Plus the extra pay increase for new hires which is higher than inflation.

SYD is east. You just go west to get to it! Everyone has their own preference. Lots of people love TLV being by the beach and all. Others hate it for various reasons (some don't feel comfortable). Some like beaches, others pubs and others recreation (skiing/hiking). It depends what you like. I'd rec...

Re: Westjet pax way more disruptive

It would definitely not explain every situation however a larger portion of AC's pax are business travellers. WS is much bigger than AC in the friends and family flying to Cancun/PVR/Varadero crowd. I would assume that "typically" this is the crowd to get in trouble. Note that Sunwing have had their...

Re: PC 12 De-Ice Equipment

The 320 only has Engine Intake Anti Ice and only Anti Ice protection on the outer half of the wing, it's funny to park beside a 737 after an approach in ice, because Boeing and Airbus have a completely different idea with the 737 only protecting the inner half, and the outer half on the Airbus.
