Re: YYZ pilot questions

Just curious what the purpose of "final approach" is. Yesterday arriving we were assigned final approach after already cleared the approach and all the controller did was hand us off to tower at The FAF. Seemed we were one of the few. Who went to final approach. We were relatively tight behind a DH8...

Re: The attributes of the 737MAX joining the AC fleet?

Some pilots are excited to "fly a real mans airplane again". Most of us think it's a step backwards. Having been fortunate enough to fly the brand new 321s at Rouge it's an awesome work experience. Quiet, comfortable and great airplane. I've never flown the 737 but from my understanding is its small...

Re: A380 crosswind landing fun.

I've flown with a handful of people that say the airbus is crap in a gusty crosswind or any crosswind. These same people if you look at what they are doing to the side stick is incredible. They are making HUGE corrections left and right, up and down and some large portion of the aircraft's "instabil...

Re: Wheel landing or three point?

Every situation is different. I like to be proficient in both and use what fits the situation better. In strong (15-20kt+ gusty x winds in a light tail dragged) I almost always wheel landed, on short fields with no real obstacles I almost always 3 pointed, short field with an obstacle I'd always cle...

I nor anyone on this board will be able to help you unless an AME is on here. My 2 cents, contact them and see where it goes. The medical professionals are the only one s with an idea on what means a criteria.

Re: Pathetic Pearson Airport

There are many short falls with YYZ. It starts with staffing with Nav Canada. When they are using all three runways the operation actually runs pretty well. Unfortunately management at Nav Canada need to get some more bums in seats. Perhaps offer transfer bonuses from elsewhere in the country to mov...

Re: Jerry Janes 1935-2017

Jerry was so keen to share his aircraft and flying knowledge/stories with me as a youngster. My step dad at the time was good friends with Jerry and we always would drive to Boundary Bay to go have coffee with his group. Jerry would always take time to talk to me and see how I was doing and what's n...

Actually we deal with crosswinds with strong northerly winds all winter even though there are two north south runway that are available but using 24/23 is better for traffic movement.

Maybe I'm a tad crusty after a 3 day, but IMHO if you all take pride in the professional image that the uniform contributes to, shave your face before you head out the door...... I have a neatly combed beard that I've had nothing but complements with, my neck is shaved and it's tidy. What's wrong w...

Re: What do you think of the new uniforms?

I also agree. Its one thing if the suits were tailored and fit great on everyone. But in my opinion a poor fitting jacket looks more tacky than no tunic. Many US carriers have a leather bomber style. I wish we had gone that route. I am okay with the shirt and tie but i dont really ever wear the tunic.

At AC one can go from any position to wide body capt with no overseas experience and some do go 320 captain -> wide body captain with no overseas experience. Obviously most of their fos will have some experience though its not a requriement. Not to hijack a westjet thread but just trying to share ot...

If you're in Economy the 330 is more confortable at 2-4-2 than the 3-4-3 on the 777.

Thanks cossack for taking the time to always engage us. With AC trying to expand (would be interesting to see how the GTAA keeps up with that) and the plan of having a 23L/05R built someday is Nav Canada trying to get ahead of hiring? A couple weeks ago after a shower rolled through once arrivals an...

Re: YYZ Ground Stops

From my observation as a pilot operating into and out of YYZ there are numerous problems. Many probably stem from the GTAA but I think everyone probably shares some blame. From a strictly aircraft movement point of view, for what ever reason spacing seems to be much more conservative in YYZ (most of...

Re: Air Asia shaking like "Washing Machine"

Without knowing what happened.. based on the relatively slow frequency of the vibrations.. maybe they did shut the engine down and the vibrations are caused by the windmilling engine. If a few fan blades came off it would be very unbalanced. In a jet engine you can't feather the fan so it would cont...

Re: Hand flying

I fly the bus out of YYZ. My airline on paper encourages us to hand fly when practical. Most guys will hand fly the departure until above 10,000. On decent it depends on the approach being flown. If IMC the only one I don't regularly hand fly would be a vertically selected approach where we are usin...

Re: Upgrade times and pay.

Is it that you don't want to do many hours or want to spend more time at home? If you want the most time at home the best strategy would be to become an RP and as you become senior you'll get your days of work down to 8 or so a month. The next move would be your choice - become a senior narrow body ...
