Re: Air Canada Rouge EGPWS warning at Huatulco

I assume you are excluding "cleared for AN approach" -- like in N Ontario Uc Airports in that ATC prohibition. My point was that whether or not they were cleared for the/an approach had nothing to do with it. ATC shouldn't be giving clearance to descend to below IFR minimum altitude at pilot's disc...

Re: Night Rating - You Should Think About It!

The worst on an overcast night IMO is rockcliff, runway 9. I believe they are fixing it but only the first half of the runway is lighted. Lift off and all references immediately disappear, and headed for the dark river. Nasty. Worse than a day IMC takeoff, at least to my limits. Such a takeoff isn'...

Re: Flying to Alaska

Although the coastal route is absolutely beautiful, it presents its own set of challenges WX wise. Unless you are on strait floats the highway option is the only reasonably safe way of getting there and back safely. One thing that I would like to make mention of here which has already been indirectl...

Even with that its still vfr I fly 300-1 all the time it ain't that bad Ah I don’t miss “those days” slugging it out on the 3-1 op spec. Might be “legal” but do you really feel safe doing so? All the best, TPC (Dosent miss having his nose pressed to the front wind screen, while murking about in the...

Re: Is it worth it anymore? ( salaries ?)

7 years into this industry since my CPL was complete. 5k hours, 3 companies, never made a T4 more than 50k yr, but managed to pay off more than that in student debt. Salary today is about 40k. Now I have the opportunity for a big raise, but circumstances don’t really jive for a poor schedule to do ...

Re: new to float operation. need some information please

I would prefer a low time pilot for a small private operation like a fishing lodge for the simple reason I would not have to un-train bad habits that a lot of pilots develop, low time pilots can be trained to fly the way I would want them to fly my airplane. And you speak from “experience”? You are...

Re: Can you wobble while landing?

The main pumps on lots of Beavers are the originals and 60 years old so yes they do quit. Lots now have the STC for the electric pump as a third backup. The wobble pump is kind of low on the centre console which makes it difficult to look out over the engine to land while the other had is down by y...

You're claiming they never do? Plenty of evidence to the contrary. Of course some AC FA's would have trouble getting out the emergency door. Good rant. I was all for it until you admonished someone in regards to their weight. Having read your previous posts over the years, I think what I quoted you...

Re: Vancouver downtown apartment rental vacancies?

YVR is brutally expensive to live in.

The commute even from White Rock can be a frustrating experience even at the best of times.

If I were you, I'd look into shared accoms in Steveston. It's a gem of a community!

Hope that helps,
