Re: First RCAF C-295 makes Maiden Flight

I find it unfortunate that the Fed's and DND couldn't have found a way or means to support Viking and put together an "updated" Cariboo for this role

Yes it does; set it into the astro compass, cast a shadow with the lubber line and re-cage the C14 but ALWAYS, ALWAYS do the math twice

Hope they "repay" some of the funds they received over the years from the Canadian taxpayers
I'm sure if they had the cash to do that, they wouldn't have sold the program in the first place...

Re: How to improve flight training.

The GA fatal accident rate in the 1950’s was 4 times higher than it is today so I find the idea that we should return to 1950’s training programs unpersuasive. Good hands and feet are only part of what makes a “good” pilot. Learning and applying good airmanship and pilot decision making skills are ...

Re: How to improve flight training.

It's just a numbers game, not a lack of desire and the skills can certainly be had if one so choices. Mandating it I'm afraid isn't the answer to some of the challenges faced by the industry. Rote training, scripted lesson plans and a general dumbing down of the demonstrated skills is the slippery s...

Re: How to improve flight training.

That's just the point; it's not all that simple, accessibility, cost, qualified instructors to name just a few related issues and to what end. Which specific aspect of being a pilot are you expect to magically improve, general handling, effects of controls (or over controlling). If a significant inc...

Re: How to improve flight training.

More exposure to a variety of aviation skills is clearly beneficial. However you proposed that tailwheel training should be mandatory and that's a very different kind of suggestion !!!!

Re: How to improve flight training.

Every phase of flight has its own uniques set of skills, most of which are applicable to all phases of flight. While basic rudder control may well be enhanced through exposure in a taildragger once airborne rudder control becomes identical in all low wing loading, trainer style airplane regardless o...

Even if these were to be the new rules, I doubt anyone would have a schedule or be able to maintain a job within Canada, smoke weed and abide by those rules.

The AD or SB issued is minor, however for Boeing the optics could be the issue and the great "unwashed" press will jump all over it unfortunately.

AC wants the AT Neo's and delivery their future options so they can ditch the 737 Max "public perception" issue. Progress from the regionals or OTS just came to a grinding halt. The overall Canadian aviation industry is evolving and now trying to find its "new" happy place, grab a chair.
