Re: flights from Hamilton to Kelowna

I can't comment on this specific situation, but generally speaking, WestJet has a different summer and winter schedules with the Winter schedule starting near the end of October. Airlines submit their winter schedule the previous May and although there are small changes made during the year, for the...

Re: ONEX plans

Doesn’t ONEX own plants that build parts for Boeing? Not anymore. Onex purchased Spirit AeroSystems in 2005/2006 and after a number of mergers sold it in 2014 to turn it into a publicly traded company. For what it's worth, Yahoo Finance outlines that: The Onex Group acquired Spirit AeroSystems from...

Re: Living near YYZ/YTZ

To expand a little more upon ZBBYLW's post: Housing prices in Toronto are nuts and there isn't too much rhyme or reason to some of it. Nonetheless, most younger single folks (pilots or otherwise) will usually start out by renting a two or 3 bedroom apartment with roommates if they want to live downt...

I don’t understand where these lost wages are that you speak of. Nothings been lost, ESP has been replaced and stock options replacement is currently being negotiated. We have a binding labor contract and while the shape of the remuneration might be changing, the grand total is not. As far as the b...

That's true too! Plus, don't get me wrong, I love my job, but on my days off the last thing I want to do is do more flying.

Re: picking up extra flying work on a different company during off days

You can do extra flying outside Encore with the following conditions:

1- Company needs to be advised and give youpermissions
2- It can't be for a direct competition
3- It can't interfere with your Encore flying or monthly flying limits.

Krukkie, You were a great baseball player and I even had your baseball card when I was 12. When I was trying to convince my Mom that my baseball card collection was a worthy investment she wisely said that something is only worth as much as someone will pay for it. So, while anything is possible, wh...

Encore uses the CAE Sim in YYZ now (and still occasionally uses the Flight Safety Sim) but almost solely for recurrent training.

Re: Retirement Wave

I know what it means. So for somebody starting today with every WestJet FO and Swoop pilot ahead of them going back to 2010 waiting for a captain spot and possibly every Encore pilot ahead of them too, and a company that isn’t expanading very fast it will probably be until 2037 or very close to it ...

Re: Retirement Wave

That’s a long time to wait The 'peak' retirements will be in 2037, meaning the largest age cohort of pilots at WJ at the moment is 47 years old. I can tell you that there are plenty of pilots at mainline who are older than 47 though. So unlike AC where you saw just a trickle of retirements and then...

Re: Updates on one - list.

It’s not back the way it was, my impression is they are just maintaining the list, really just for ‘housekeeping’ purposes. Nothing is finalized or in force yet. This is correct. Nothing of substance will occur at the moment with respect to those affected by the seniority draws. Either the draws wi...

Re: Updates on one - list.

Why would an MEC, whose responsibility is to represent its members be able to do this without another vote. At the end of the day there was a vote among its members that resulted in a No and until that is rectified, I believe it would be a huge issue for them to go against the wishes of its members...

Re: Updates on one - list.

So, a few facts. -Onex does not yet own WestJet. It will not be finalized til the winter or early next year. -There is a strong desire on all fronts including management to continue talking about seniority transfer. How that will actually work out remains to be seen. -Encore is already a CPA of West...

Re: Updates on one - list.

Is this the company’s fault or ALPAs? Wasn’t it westjet that didn’t want a true one list because of training costs in the event of lay-offs?Or was it ALPA that gave it up? My guess is that a true one list that the pilots want the company will resist so what does westjet do now? Like a TSB accident ...

Re: Flying Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 and Jazz Air / Air Canada Express for the first time

As a Q400 pilot myself (not for Jazz) I have very high confident in the aircraft and the crews at Jazz. Would happily fly on the aircraft. As ahramin stated, it is significantly safer than driving. I will note that in a 'smaller' turboprop aircraft, there are slightly more noises and bumps than in a...

Re: Top Tips

First of all, congrats and welcome to Encore! A few tips that helped but that I also learned the hard way: 1- While the goal of training is obviously for the new hire to learn, don't expect them to spoon feed you. While I found the initial training tough with trying to figure out what was 'need to k...

Re: Encore, then Jazz?

If Encore offers you a position, take it. If you are ready to move on from your current job and you feel that Encore would be a better opportunity it is best to take it. Who knows what next month will bring or if Jazz will ever call. Fact is, despite there being unprecedented demand for low-ish time...

DropTanks, I apologize if it seemed that I was suggesting you were only it in for yourself. That was not my intention. Re: A "NEW" One List?

The wording was there before. Sort of. The ability to bump was in the non-unionized WJPA mainline and Encore contracts from 2015. However, not included in those contracts was the very strong scope clause that now exists in the mainline ALPA contract. The contractual clauses issue that I have referr...

Whoever is at the bottom of the "one list" gets laid off. Doesn't matter if its a Dash guy or a 737 guy or a 767 guy or a 787 guy. That's the idea of "one list".
Agreed, and I would love that, but how does this get done if it violates the mainline Collective Agreement?

Re: A "NEW" One List?

How about this; if we truly want “one list” then make it one list. If there are layoffs to be made, then the layoffs start at the bottom of the list. Doesn’t matter where they are(Encore or Mainline), whoever is at the bottom gets laid off. I'm definitely in favour of this. However, what if its the...

A "NEW" One List?

What things do mainline pilots want/need to see in a new LOA in order for them to vote for a one list? It seems the other One List thread has officially "jumped the shark" (google it - great photos of the Fonz!). Since the No vote last week there has been a fair bit of support from mainline pilots t...
