Re: AC New hires please use your WB bid

Is widebody FO really such a bad job though? I just wonder if the motivation of those deriding it comes from the fact it used to take 10+ years to achieve the position and now it's going to new hires. There might be some jealousy that is causing their statements to be negative. What's so bad about ...

Re: First Day as a new First Officer

I remember my first flight from Thunder Bay to a reserve up north. The clearance on the ground was GPS direct. I was just shocked there was nothing else to it. In all my training I'd never had such a simple clearance. The first little while will be a fire hose. Read the books, do what you can to pre...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

Yes, most positions are in YYZ but there are still vacancies in YUL and YVR. If a guy wanted to get to YVR ASAP, what would you say is the best aircraft to try and get on? There are openings in YVR for 777 & 787 RP's and 737 & A320 FO's. It is possible to be awarded one of those positions while in ...

Re: When are you on-reserve

There are some differences in the amount of notice required for a call out with reserve vs on-call. The other major difference is the amount of scheduled days they can do and the required days off. Reserve can go longer without days off compared to on-call. Reserve also has some rules that reduce th...

It’s really just semantics if you’re taking in all three at once. Whatever works best to build a picture of it all for yourself is really the right answer.

Re: Most useful forecast when planning a X-Country

I start with the METAR at departure, then the TAF, then GFA with some TAFs along the route. Combine that with FD info for cruise calculations, then TAF and METAR for destination. As others have said, use every available resource to paint yourself a picture of what is going on up there and what is li...

Question for YVR approach controllers

Hello! Question for those people working YVR approach. While flying the Canuck STAR arriving from the east after passing MILLS, we're often given a clearance such as, descend 5k unrestricted, cancelling out the altitude restrictions down route. My question to you is: when you issue this clearance, a...

Re: American Express (Premium Plaza) Lounge will now require a boarding pass

.....I see no issue with going in and having a bite to eat a couple times a month. How is that any different from a frequent business traveller at which the service is marketed to? I think you've answered your own question. It wasn't marketed as a "crew lounge". It was marketed as a business travel...

Re: American Express (Premium Plaza) Lounge will now require a boarding pass

If you were arguing against the supplementary card usage then I'd agree with you. I paid full price and had one card though I respectfully disagree with you calling into question the character of anyone who used the lounges. How a business wants to conduct themselves is their choice. They could've e...

Re: American Express (Premium Plaza) Lounge will now require a boarding pass

Good to see they shut down this scam. It was an embarrassment, and frankly, I question the character of those who took advantage of it. The scam that people had multiple secondary cards that were never actually getting used for purchases or just the fact that flight crew were using the lounge period?

Re: American Express credit card w/lounge access?

One of the girls at YVR said you could still get in with the priority pass card without a boarding pass. That's included with the platinum card but we'll see how it shakes out. I figured I'd give them a phone call and let them know I intend to cancel at the end of the year otherwise.

Re: Pilot Seniority Porting

Can someone explain to me how this is fair to anybody at Jazz? Are you seriously telling me that someone hired at Bearskin can basically walk into a left seat after spending a couple years at a completely different company, jumping over someone who has actually been working at Jazz for several years?
