Re: Winter Bid released today.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to how senior you'd have to be to hold a YVR RJ FO spot?

I'm jumping on the undershirt band wagon. I also don't get more than one day of use per white shirt unless it's an exceptionaly easy day.

Any clue how easy it is to get to YVR with those mini-bids? It seems like there aren't many spots coming up during groundschool but people can get YVR in a mini-bid?

If you're going to spend the money, you may as well get a Group 1. I've never met anyone who regretted the group one, but I have met a couple who regret not getting a multi rating, and by extension a group 1 rating.

Depends on how good the ATR gig is.

I'd be inclined to go Captain on the 200 for a little while if both jobs offered similar qualities of life and locations.

LocCap, may I ask what are you doing with the single VFR planes you're flying, instructing, patrols, hauling gear to camps? And how many hours are you getting per year? What are your goals in aviation, airline, corporate, bush, water bombers? I am starting to understand your dilemma a one year bond...

They do hire from the ramp. Can't speak as to how frequently. Friend of mine went from the ramp right into a Saab 340.

Re: ATPL exams

Everyone seems to over think the ATPLs in my opinion. Put some money into a prep book for the Ops section. I personally recommend the sharper edge series. \

As for weather, 99% of what's going to be on the exam will be covered in the Air Command Weather manual.

99% sure that my present employer pays for ground school. The previous company I worked for, both 703, didn't. Hit and miss I suppose.

Re: CPL Written Exam

CX2 calculators are your friend. Sharper edge puts out a pretty decent book with practice exams for each section. I can't remember if they have you interpreting performance charts or not, but if so, make sure you read over every detail on that chart before answering the question.

I doubt if the customers actually get a partial refund as described depending on the company. I know they're supposed to but I've never witnessed a customer actually get a portion back if they were unaware of such practices.

I've never used the Ipad as a primary GPS but I've used it in flight for charts and what-not. It works fairly well and never takes more than a couple seconds to get a fix. I second the over-heating comment. I was flying a Piper Cherokee from Bend to northern California and it decided to quit about h...

There's a doctor at the Mariner's Clinic on Burrard who's quite nice and if I remember, relatively inexpensive.

There's a Dr. Joffe at Seymour Health who's helped me in the past.

Looking for a share or rental of a piston single or twin

Hi there,

I'm in the Vancouver area and I'm looking for a single or twin piston aircraft. It needs at least two seats and is hopefully faster than a 172 though I'm open to anything.

I've got prior references if required.

I can only imagine how carefully they'd have to manage their power, and how it could get progressively harder if they start to bog down. Risky business.
