Re: IFR / GPS Question

You can however take credit for the NDB or DME in some cases. COM 3.15.9 in the AIM. I don't have a YHM apprpach plate handy so I can't say if you can take credit or not in this case.

Nope never do it. As a training captain, all engine failures are above 1500' AGL in the aircraft. We don't want to die.

They typically go to the metro's and then on to the king air flying medivac and if all goes well and a seat opens up they may fly in the citation. I did my PPL at SIFC and while their aircraft were not very nice cosmetically at the time I did feel that for the most part they were very well maintain...

Re: Aircraft noise tied to higher heart disease risk

I bet if you took into account socioeconomic information the study would wither away and die. Houses near airports tend to be cheaper. People lower down on the economic scale eat less healthy due to cost. You have more heart attacks. I am sure it is all the planes fault. Junk science at its finest. ...

I will also add keep a good lookout for FOD and things like runway lights. The edges are usually not in as good shape as the center. Be aware of the neon sticks that they use to mark edge lights for the plow in the snow at some places. High enough to catch something like a cherokee. Good airmanship ...

Well back in the day many airlines had employee flying clubs. Pacific Flying Club out of ZBB began it's life as the Canadian Pacific's Employees Flying Club. Maybe it is time for that sort of organization to exist again?

You are correct canoehead. A very impressive for the 1100+ built and still being built. However the -200 series is begining to see the end of its life and at least one from Singapore has been scrapped. I wonder if any other airframe has had that sort of safety record. Very impressive machine.

When in doubt it is usually the longest answer. In fact I bet if you went through a TC exam and chose just the longest answer you would get well over 50%!

Even the 12 hours on 12 hours off has its draw backs. Namely backside of the biological clock operations. You are more tired at night working in a significantly higher risk operations. Re: Visit to Bowen Island - land at CZBB or CYPK?

I would say it depends on how you plan to get to Horseshoe Bay. 1. If your friend is picking you up, consider Squamish. It is a VFR Daytime Airport but by far the closest to Horseshoe Bay by drive time and ease of traffic. Drive time 45min 2. If you are taking transit to the Ferry you would have to ...

One thing to note, some logbook software now will allow you to attach an electronic signature to each page. DO NOT DO THIS. When I applied for my ATPL my logbook was perfect. Legible, all the math was 100% and that got the TC approval right off. However, the electronic signature was not kosher at th...

Well put trey kule As a line captain your job is to ensure the PF is doing their job. Intact I encourage FOs to always tune and set all nav aids even if you don't plan on using them and it is clear and a million. Turning off a nav aid online is just silly.
