Re: TC will not issue me an ATPL-H, because of aircraft type

Looks like AW109SP is kosher for the boys and girls at TC. Didn't know we even had those in the RCAF, but apparently we do. http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/2/CADORS-SCREAQ/rd.aspx?cno%3d2014P1799%26dtef%3d%26dtet%3d2014-10-24%26otp%3d-1%26ftop%3d%253e%253d%26ftno%3d0%26ijop%3d%253e%253d%26ijno%3...

Re: LogTen Pro X

An email was sent out to existing Coradine Aviation customers (Log Ten Pro, etc), in which they cleared up confusion with regards to the new Log Ten Pro X software. Basically, the iOS version is free, up until you log 40 hours of flight time, and then you are prompted to pay the subscription either ...

Might be good to know whether or not 2R is referring to conversions, or the new 172's.

Flew two out of three of them at CZBB (CFC has two, the other belongs to International Flight Centre, and last I saw of it, it was prop-less). CFC's birds are Thielert conversions, TDI is a R model, while TAE is a P model 172. All in all, they are good planes, and I ended up with around 65 hours bet...

Re: Sorry you Alberta pilots, you can't fly in the USA

Sorry to disappoint, it's alive and well in the GTA as well -- but less around my home airport  Funny, because leaving Buttonville, we ended up going to Waterloo, and then through the Owen Sound area towards Marathon, and never heard it once. On the second day, leaving Marathon, we were ne...

There's a Decathalon at CYPK, has a red and blue paint scheme, sits off on the side of apron one, in the grass near C.G.'s giant hangar.

Flat tires, no covers, dull paint, and she's got plenty of moss growing on the fabric.

Helped ferry a one of four C172R's back from Ontario in September. First day of flying in Ontario, ended up in Marathon, never once heard the dreaded phrase. Second day, crossing the Manitoba border, it started, and never stopped, until we shut down on the third day in Pitt Meadows. Passing Portage ...

Re: Large Fabric structures as permanent buildings

Yep, you get what you pay for. Might not be a bad idea to go around to some farms, and see what farmers are putting up. They usually don't want to mess around with semi-permanent structures. Of course, some will say that wood framed is the only way to go, and it is certainly cheaper than metal (whic...

Re: Large Fabric structures as permanent buildings

Fabric will likely be cheaper, but will have problems with wind, snow loads, and inevitably the sun/UV ray damage in the Prairies. Metal is more expensive, but if done right (proper permanent concrete foundation, spray foam insulation, ventilation, heated, lighted, good electrical, alarmed, etc), wi...

Currently twenty-one, will be twenty-two in about four months. I've had my CPL(A) since April of this year, and so far have had no luck with finding any form of gainful employment as a pilot. Working on completing my Class 4 Instructor Rating out of CYPK these days.

Re: Jeppesen navdata vs nav canada digital vnc

On a recent ferry flight from Buttonville to Pitt Meadows, with three other 172s, I brought along my Aera 500 GPS. For whatever reason, the navigation data was screwed up, and all it would show in Canada were VORs and NDBs, no airports, or airspace. Pretty much useless, other than being able to figu...

Re: Malaysian plane shot down, crashes in Ukraine

I'd say that at the moment, the world is a bit more concerned about the overt Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine, rather than the investigation of the shoot down of an airliner. Priorities change, and the media will focus on the more interesting story to try and get better ratings. Seems to be a pr...

Lets get something straight here, this calculation for the CPL flight test is for your Vref speed, which is not what you approach at or land at. Huh ? On my CPL flight test, I calculated the Vref speed, and it was quite low, but that is what the formula generated. The DFTE had me demonstrate the ca...

Re: Malaysian plane shot down, crashes in Ukraine

Come on people, give your heads a shake. As was noted, the SA-11 SAMs use a lead pursuit trajectory, which means that the missile ends up exploding ahead of the target, which then flies through a cloud of shrapnel. This then will cause significant damage to the aircraft. In the case of MH-17, you ar...

Re: College of pilots

Seems to me that what we as an industry need, is a group that is already established, and widely accepted as being credible, to take up the torch for our cause. Be it higher wages, a pay scale, insurance, hour requirements, getting rid of TFW pilots, etc. The only solution I can see, is a union. But...
