Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

It's "funny" how we have double standards and nobody seems to give a sh*t. I love it how some women go out of their way to hint or suggest that men have it better, or that they (the women) are being discriminated. As a man I have to watch my every move when I'm volunteering for my kids' school. It g...

Re: Advice on where to start?

This is not a career that you "just look into". You either love aviation or you don't. My advice:
1. Get a real degree (doesn't matter what it is)
2. Get a Private Pilot License. If you still like it, then go get your CPL / ME / IFR
3. Get some flying experience
4. Get to fly for a regional airline.

Thanks HansDietrich.... Oh the internet!! sort of like the school yard sometimes eh? I appreciate your feedback. DaveP This forum is filled with frustrated pilots, dreamers and most of all rumor addicted individuals. I fall into one of those categories. We all loved aviation at one point, then decid...

Re: Image Recorders May be Coming to a Cockpit Near You

I would have no problem at all with video recorders, except one. I wouldn't want published videos of plane crashes. It's not something the families need to see and you know they come out eventually. They're "shocking" news...

Re: Classic Dash replacement??

KenoraPilot, Yeah. Happy New Year! I'll agree with you. If they come up with a brand new "-100/-300NG" type of Dash, with better, quieter engines, better avionics, more bin space, I'd have no problem. It's not the size of the plane that matters. It's the age of it. It shows. Like the other gentleman...

Re: Classic Dash replacement??

what are you flying these days? You bash the 8 but what are you currently enjoying now? I'm flying corporate. It's not perfect, but I enjoy it a lot more than Jazz. The Citation I fly is much nicer, I have more time off to be with my wife and kids and I go to much nicer destinations. I'm much happi...

Could be worse bud. You could fly a DH8 at Jazz or a RJ200 at GGN. Sky Regional seems like heaven (aircraft / destination wise) compared to these two.

Re: Classic Dash replacement??

The Dash 8-100/300 needs to be replaced ASAP. I didn't like it as a pilot and I like it even less as a paying passenger. Why you may ask: 1. Crap bin space, where I can't fit anything more than a coat. 2. Sky Check, where they break or dirty my carry on bag (not to mention having to take my laptop,...

Re: Classic Dash replacement??

Thank goodness you quit Jazz! Wouldn’t want to subject you to any more pain and suffering. My god the Classic Dash 8 has given you some serious PTSD. I hope that one day you will recover from the pain inflicted by Jazz and the DH8. God speed and hope to see you one day recovered from the “classic c...

I take a friend , Dave, up for a flight. Dave is my first passenger with me flying PIC Right seat. I practice a bit of flight instruction but Dave used to be a Glider Flight instructor and is a Flight sim guy who knows quite well how to fly. https://youtu.be/kGLOFPIXlNY Great video sir! Correct me if I'm wrong but that's not a pressurized aircraft. I'm not sure if they have "two versions".

If he is hired into YYC and the training is in YYC then no accommodations are provided If he is hired into YYZ and training is in YYC the accommodations should be provided. This is pretty much standard across the industry. No it's not. Jazz paid for all my accommodation during my initial training.

Yeah. This thread is odd... If you're a licensed pilot, you should be able to rent a plane, given that you've passed a Check Ride.

Re: Seeking Captains to fly in Asia

You won’t find a Flight Attendant in Asia talking back to the Captain. Let me guess, you were a flight attendant. Good! It's the same in Europe. FAs in Europe don't say "squeek" unless spoken with. Their job is to serve the coffee & cookies and look good. When I flew for Jazz and heard some of old ...

I flew both the King Air and the Dash 8 classic. Go King Air PIC. It's worth way more than any "heavy" FO turboprop gig.

Having a family and working at Jazz as an F/O is nearly impossible. I have two kids and my wife has a very well paying job. We don't live in a world where only one of the parents can work and the other stay home. That's the exception nowadays, not the rule. Like many people said, budgeting is very i...

It's so sad, I don't have any words. This is the "national" airline of Canada; one of the most expensive countries in the world. Anybody (pilot) who justifies this is an idiot.

Re: Visa sponsored jobs abroad

Lots of companies abroad ask that you have time on type, but will take you if you've flown something similar. For example, you can be hired at Emirates on the 777 with only a 737 type rating. They will give you full type rating once you're successfully hired by them. Also, I've seen ads for 777 pilo...
