Re: Swoop/Sunwing/Transat: Hourly Pay

Not quite sure if this was mentioned before but SW’s pay is based on 1000 hrs/yr. Isn’t SWOOPS based on 77.5 or similar per month? For what’s it worth, I just flew with an FO (SW) a little while ago that worked a bit of OT/deployed to Europe and made mid 6 figures. I guaranteed he worked far less da...

Re: China the Aviation Mecca? Think again.

Thinking a communist third world country with MAJOR human rights issues is Mecca for anything is laughable. I mean there are plenty of other chit holes where you can make more money, take the Middle East for example, and at least over there's it's honest enough to not pretend to be anything differe...

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.

Could those 87's on order actually be swapped over to Swoop? Low cost transatlantic is just scary/gross. Look at WOW out of KEF. It's like flying Ryanair over the Atlantic.

Re: Coming home after working overseas (ATPL)

@confusedalot I really do get where you're coming from and your points are valid. There's one key difference. TAX. That shitty DC pension becomes even shittier because it will be taxed. If he or she is smart, an expats offshore savings WILL NOT. Also an expat Captain can probably save what a person ...

Re: Coming home after working overseas (ATPL)

Maybe working for Emirates or Ethiad but if you include contract jobs in Asia those numbers are kinda low. Would you like me to post a few job links? New hires are DC pension now. As good as the old DB pension may be, I would be very nervous going into retirement with "0" savings and solely relying ...

Re: Coming home after working overseas (ATPL)

I understand the spreadsheet concept, but do not forget that the tax free pay pretty much equates to after tax pay for the ''senior'' guys. Well, except...no. I don't mean to be argumentative, and this is absolutely not meant to be a pissing contest. But that simply isn't factually correct. A typic...

Thread bump. Anyone have any updated info on the CAAC not accepting Canadians. Was told by 3 agencies that Canadians are not being accepted for the "time being."

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose

I love this, air canada and wj being referred to as stepping stones. To what? Slavery at Emirates and Qatar? The absolute GARBAGE that is the chinese contracts? Awesome dude. Sounds like you have first hand info? How many 737/777 contracts have you completed in China? Was it after you did 5 years i...

Re: Coming home after working overseas (ATPL)

^ +1. Fantastic post from someone that has been there and done that. I love Canada but the way the current government (ie. tax system) is going, becoming an expat is looking more and more appealing.

Re: foreign pilots in 'merika

False. US Majors hiring foreigners = not gonna happen anytime soon. I actually emailed the respective HR departments of United, Delta, American and Southwest. Who the hell wouldn't want to be based somewhere down south? Southwest and American actually replied back to me. They said their hiring needs...
