Re: Since this "Pilot Shortage" started, has pay gone up at any regional or major airline?

A lot more people will stay at 703/704 if pay and schedule is good, especially people living outside of major cities, pilots with some "different" priorities (eg home every night on a small plane vs hotels on a big jet), etc. On what basis do you make such a claim? A few work friends and I are a pr...

Re: Zulu 3 repairs

Had a couple buddies send in their Zulus for repairs as well, had to pay the shipping costs. Darn shame... don't want to start a debate but with Bose, under warranty, shipping costs were covered by them, shipping labels were sent for returns. It's a shame, I'd expect Lightspeed to provide the same ...

Zulu 3 repairs

Wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. I traded in my Bose headset 8 months ago to give the Zulu 3 a try. Now I'm starting to wonder if I made a poor decision. Yesterday the right side ANR started crackling like there was a bad solder or wire or something. By the end of the day the right sid...

Re: Plane registered to Roy Halladay crashes in Gulf off Florida

Regardless of amounts he had measurable amounts of impairing substances in his body. Because it is also poly-drug use it is very difficult to say exactly how impaired he was. The combination of drugs and alcohol at a minimum will be at least as impairing as the sum of their parts, but more often wil...

Re: Plane registered to Roy Halladay crashes in Gulf off Florida

Seems he had a cocktail of alcohol and drugs in his system according to the autopsy. The quantities are unknown (except the 10mg of alcohol). I'm sure it is a contributing factor.

Base Options

What are the current seniority levels at each of Porter's bases right now?

Basically is YHZ out of the question for new hires?

Do you get to rate you choices when hired? Or is it completely on an operational need basis.

Re: Does a good headset matter?

I'm currently flying noisy Navajos and about to upgrade on the King Air. Just tired of the passive reduction headsets, definately need the ANR stuff. I've heard here and there that with some headsets you can't use re-chargeable batteries, does this apply to the headsets I'm about to purchase? What ...

Re: Does a good headset matter?

I have been told that you can write off the cost of a headset if it is a job requirement. Not certain if PPL or CPL would qualify, however I believe working pilots can do so. You may wish to check with Revenue Canada to see if it applies during training. Not true. Headset is a "tool of the trade". ...

Re: Ultralight Seaplane Rating

If you are interested in opening an UL training facility UPAC.ca has a great book you can buy for a few dollars which outlines the process step by step. It tells you the requirements for.licencing, insurance and TC paperwork etc.

You can also find general answers on their FAQ page.

Re: Turtle Airways FIJI

I read the local news paper article. Nothing in that article indicates there was a crash of any kind. It indicates the plane sunk while attempting take off and all the passengers got out before it sunk. Although a crash isn't out of the realm of possibility, and we all know media can be unreliable, ...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

Millions would have been saved had MH370 had one! Slightly off topic. But no. Spot doesn't have global coverage. MH370 would still be a ghost. You need Iridium devices for global coverage. If you buy these devices be sure to know their limitations. In this case the pilot would have been smart to ha...

"Wings above the Arctic" is another great book about bush flying in the Canadian North. There is a small piece about Buffalo in the book as well as stories about other great Arctic aviators. It's mostly a photobook but has some interesting stories and is an easy read for someone learning English.

I think you mean 704/705 operators. Regardless I have first hand knowledge of at least 2 operations that have turned down buisness because they are short pilots. Aircraft involved were 1900's, DHC-6, and Cessna 206's. There's talk that there are many operators in this position. It appears that there...
